GPX Mivec FTOs are the one to have in my opinion. If you can afford it, get a manual, the boxes last longer and they're quicker than the tiptronic. Don't get me wrong though, the tiptronic is supposed to be a good bit of kit...
Out the box the GPX is 198bhp, does 0-60 in about 7 seconds. Then handling is always compared to the teggy type R. I've not driven the type R so I can't comment...
The pull off speed on the FTO isn't that impressive for a nigh-on 200bhp car, it's top end the engine really excels, I got to 140mph on a private track, and it was still pulling really well.
I doubt highly that off the mark they're a scooby killer, maybe on a motorway against a standard classic. Might want to ask achad his opinion on that 'cause we've had a little head to head in his 98 classic, I was left behind in a wall of sound It was a 280bhp classic though!
Brakes suffer from a bit of fade, nothing expensive to sort. The engine noise is excellent when you hit 5000rpm, real smile maker! They're really reliable, had mine for a year, and not spent much at all on it (8 months of that year has been me pennyless as a student!)
In short they're a nice looking, good handling car, which is kinda quick. Your best bet would be to get a test drive in one

I had a GPX for a couple of years and I agree with all the comments above. I must say though that the suspension is pretty hard, not good for bumpy back roads compared to the WRX. The manual gear shift was a joy to use!
The rear bushes seem to go quite easily but they are cheap to replace.

Forgot to say, try the following BBS http://www.jcars.co.uk/mmc/fto/bbs/config.cgi
It's a bit basic but it has (or at least had) a lot of knowledgable people on it.

It could of been worse achad I could of been in a hyundai, with 500bhp from chip/exaust/filter
The suspension is VERY hard, yeah good point that, not terrible, but not as refined as a subaru going over the rough stuff. I could image landing in a lake if I rallyied it... FTO-IAL

i dont think the gpx is a 7 second car i raced one with my civic vti and i kept up with him all the way to 70+mph not sure it was a manuel or tiptronic, so i dont think it would keep up with a scoob totally deffirent league p.s(im not flaming just stating some facts when i encountered one, please dont flame me!)

My brother had a GPX Mivec. A rare manual to. They sounded odd, almost hollow. I thought it was crap to be honest. It looked quite snazzy, but was no quicker than my 323i SE and considerably slower than my later Prelude VTEC. Group 20 is a joke as well.
Clio 172 Cup or a 182 would kill it....and they can be had for 10k.

Oh, and tell us what you think after you've driven it for a while.
