Tappety motor!

Tappety motor!
Hi,
I own a Crx 16v, F-reg,112000 miles. The engine is regarded as a tappety type with soild lifters(i think), but after a recent oil change and filter and a few fluffed gear changes which whacked the engine revs deep into the red, i think its got worse
Is the correct thing to do now is to check the valve clearances? also is there any treatments i can use, i.e Slick 50,Chip fat....any reconmendations? P.S the mechanic used 10w40w semi oil.
Hope you can help!

By all means check the valve clearences...when were they last done? Alot of garages "forget" to check them, either because they presume they are hydraulic, or will only do it at the customer's request.
Top end noise with solid lifters is due to a gap, nothing in the world can be done to make it quieter except by wearing ear plugs or adjusting them
Overrevving the engine is not clever although there should already be a rev limiter anyway. The worst case is getting valve float, casing valve/piston contact. If that were the case, I think you would have known by now - bent/broken valves would nomally either cause the engine to run like crap (valve stuck open) or totally destroy it (broken valve).

I have only had the car a few weeks, and the previous owner did not mention anywork for the valve clearances, so it will have been a few thousand miles at least. A trip to the mechanic is calling and a deeper plunge into my pocket is needed.
Cheers!

It shouldn't cost that much to do at a garage, it should only take 20-30mins to do:
Could do it yourself if you have some feeler gauges:

i have two friends who have crxs and both are quite loud, both have over 150000 mile
it might even be worn piston ring, but having loud tappets shouldnt be a worry this engines are reliable just get a bit loud when old you could also try using a 15-40 grade oil it should quite the engine a bit
