Are the hondas civic typeR any fun after owning a scooby?

In word yes. I had a civic type R previous to the scoob. Performance wise there aint much in the two standard cars. CTR is poor in the wet, where as you know the scoob shines. They are two different cars, Vtec can be a lot of fun and very involving, to involving at times as you need to keep yourself in the power band to make any good progress. The gearbox and postion of the shifter in the CTR cannot be beaten in my eyes, its so prescise and quick.

Running costs in the CTR are no where near as costly as the scoob.

personally if i sold my scoob(which may happen soon), CTR would be my first choice.

I've just bought a CTR and still have my Scooby, and can honestly say, I'd never swap the Scoob for the Honda.

The Civic is a lovely car to drive and quite quick, but its not a patch on the Scooby.

My old Clio Cup was a faster/more involving drive than the CTR.

I totally agree, I had one of the first 172's and then I bought the CTR. The Honda was real fun when in the mood but a pain when I wasnt, I found the 172 more fun everyday and it was fun to see peoples faces when a silver clio flies past.
The scoob on the over hand (03sti+ppp) just cannot be compared to these Two cars, cos it out performs them both in everyway, but hey the scoob cost alot more.

Hi talizman,what was the reason for buying the civic,was it to keep miles off the scooby? and how do you find it economy wise? sorry bout the third degree but ive got a my00 DBM at the moment and im thinking about a civic as an everyday car to partner it. looked at new wrx ppp and sti7 & 8 but they just aint as fun as what i have. boootiful rb5 by the way!!

I traded our Clio Cup in for the Civic Type R for a couple of reasons.

The Cup could be a bit of a handful in the wet/ice due to no ABS and the missus has had a couple of near misses.

Also, the Clio was just too small and impractical.

The CTR's dimensions are almost like a 5 door hatch with only 3 doors if you know what I mean.

Plus the CTR is a much smoother and less frantic ride, so we decided to chop the Cup in for this.

The downside is that after the manic Cup, the CTR feels almost "flat" in comparison.

The Cup is definitely quicker at everyday "real" speeds, however the CTR comes into its own after 100+mph.

As for keeping the miles off the Scooby, not really. Both cars get used equally, and the Scoobs miles are really low anyway, so residuals are strong.

I'm not a polish and admire kind of guy, I like to drive my cars, and the RB gets used daily.

polish? heard of it,never seen any though miles arent too bad on my car but 22000 more than last year,and at that rate,with not a motorway mile in site, its going to start showing unless i get something else. hmm maybe a girlfriend who can drive and has a car would be a start...

Define fun IMO yes, having owned one after my Scoob, but only one other person agrees with me in this thread

As you all may know, I sold my STi V4 a month ago. I test drove a CTR and really didnt like it much performance wise, although its a great car. I then test drove an Integra R and it really would stick with a UK scoob with ease (ive owned 2 before you ask ) Off the line its clearly not as good, but my god does it stick to the road. It takes a while to learn how to drive it, but once you do, its a very quick motor. Too raw for most, which is where the CTR comes in IMO.

Mine is saving me money left right and centre. £33 to fill up, and lasts for 240 miles commuting.... Managed 260 the other day

As has been already said the Scooby wins in the wet and on a bumpy road as the CTR just does not have the suspension travel.
As to the driving I find the CTR much more fun to drive as I ever did my modified bugeye MY02 WRX.
Love the gear change and the Jekyll and Hyde nature of the vtec engines.
So much cheaper to run and not so bothered where I've left it parked etc.
Have to work harder to extract fast times out of it and have to think a litle more about courners etc, but I feel this makes it the more fun car out of the two. In the dry on a smooth road the CTR wins every time for me !

ok owned a my99 uk wagon.now have a ctr.plus points cheaper to run and not as stealable as a scoob.nice gear stick in dash.excellant brakes and very practical with plenty of room in the back.must admit been caught out a couple of times when overtaking and other driver floors it and im in 6th gear.need to drop to third to get real power.whereas a turbo car you just floor it.wife dosent like the screaming engine as she thinks its going to blow.all in all for £15200 its a good compromise and its a honda no problems to date.scoobys are excellant in all weathers and living in scotland its raining all the time so its alot better.wife loved the scooby and felt totally safe driving it.unlike the ctr which she almost spun at a rounabout in damp conditions.scoobys attract too much negative attention and insurance and servicing are too expensive.but 4 wheel drive is superb and just cant be beaten imho.

CTR's are great cars but poor in the wet on the OEM tyres... put on some Toyo's and this is greatly improved to the point of feeling confident when pushing in the wet. (not bad for £83 per corner fitted).

what would scooby do

I went from a 290BHP Scoob type R to a new CTR, you can't really compare the two. Going from 4wd and a sorted chassis to a front wheel drive car thats chassis is hard to make it corner.

It's a different kinda fun, if you're hacking on and allways in the right gear its very addictive. The steering on the CTR is numb and has does not give you precise feedback like a scoob.

Plus points

1. I don't panic when I have 1/4 tank of fuel left
2. I don't need to buy optimax and NF
3. I don't need to spend on a tracker
4. Insurance is 1/2 the cost of my scoob
5. Don't need a turbo timer
6. Don't worry about parking it anywhere
7. Got 3 years warranty
8. Not that many modifications available so can't get tempted to fiddle with it

Having owned both, I can honestly say that the Scoob is streets ahead in every area.

Owned a scoob for 5 years, MY99 PPP, and then sold for a CTR. Now had it for 5k miles and already thought of chopping it in for a P1. IMO the handling on the impreza is in a different league as is B road performance. I'll probably stick with CTR for a while yet but not looking forward to when the roads gets wet and icy
