Thumbs up Landrovers...

I currently have a K plate Discovery 3.5 V8 LPG.

But I'm after something abit more bling (newer, pretier, not 8mpg!)

22k budget, looking to buy this week. Current short list:

1) 6 month old TD5 Discovery (new shape, new lights, sexy)
2) 2001 Range Rover 2.5 DHSE (mkII not the bling bling mkiii)
3) 6 month old TD5 Defender (well, it's a defender, nuff said!)

I do a fair bit off offroading but nothing extreme, just green lanes. I prefer the looks of the new rangerover but its way over budget.

Any others I should be looking at?

2nd hand Lexus RX300?

But I wouldn't want to off road it

Or a 2nd hand Land Cruiser Amazon or top spec 2nd hand Land cruiser - not as bling but better with the rougher stuff

I have an 04 Landrover Discovery TD5, and it's very nice to drive. Can eat up the motorway miles (done 7500 miles in the 6 weeks I've had it). Plus it's got great road presence. I get about 500 miles to the tank (about £70) so it's not too bad for the size of the thing.

Sold my 1993 discovery TDi last year and miss her terribly, would get another without a doubt, think it would be a defender this time though

The Rangie - they're supposed to be a bit lacking in torque for off roading, but you can chip them, which improves economy and power quite significantly, I heard.

I'm not sure about the newer discovery - everyone seems to have one - but that said, they are supposed to be good.

after having a discovery V8 though, a defender might feel a bit nasty.

Personally, I'd get the Rangie, and then chip it. They are good off road, if you dare to take it, and they're nice inside.

8 mpg? I used to get 13 out of my rangie classic on LPG...... 11 on bad days, and 15 on a motorway cruise.... I know the LPG's supposed to halve the cost of driving the thing, but it's not half annoying, having to fill up as often as that That's why I sold it

Cheers for the advice guys.

I ended up buying a 4.6 V8 HSE, with all the toys.

Pick it up Tuesday!

LOL...so much for getting a diesel then

The 4.6 will be better on fuel than the old MK1 Dico V8's as in general the engine have more efficient induction/exhaust systems, and they final junked the old lucas flapper EFi, so you'll have proper sequential hot wire controlled EFi.

Should be 12-15Mpg? Fit the latest LPG kits (i.e - injection - with ignition timing advance and control, not the venturi ones with no ignition control) And you'll keep your power and only loose 1-2 MPG.

What always baffled me is how RR's do 15odd MPG, whilst A Bentley Turbo weighing almost the same (but with 6.75litres and 600lb/ft) can average 20mpg

I love defenders so am a bit biased.

£16k?!

My parents have had a few Range Rover's, including a couple S2 RR's.

I love them but things do go wrong with them. Off the top of my head, they had the gearbox, the air suspension and the radiator replaced under warranty so watch out for those...

Cracking car, hope you enjoy it
