Default E30 M3

Thinking of changing the my00 scoob turbo for an e30 m3. Has anybody driven or owned one how do they compare. Not interested in just straight line speed but the fun factor and running costs and reliabilty.

Lookin at one tomorrow 1990 model with 84000 miles. Will this be the Evo 2 or Evo 3 sport version?

They are suppose to be very tail end twitchy (especially in the wet) so you have to be careful on that account, i think CraigH may have driven one as we had a little conversation about these a few weeks back (he had found one and i knew where there was another one so compared them both).
BTW the one ive seen is very nice and in excellent condition, its here>> www.just-sports.org

If you drive one you will deffo notice how well these cars are put together. It may be 14 years old but it put shame on Jap crap.
I had one for 2 years, never had much trouble with it other than a couple of wear and tear items.Timing chains are the dodgy thing, they do need changing at around 100,000 miles so this one your looking at will need it soon.Look at £1500 for that unless you know a good mechanic.
Make sure the panels are original, these were hand built and replacement panels do not fit like the originals.
There is no chance you are looking at an EVO sport, they are rarer than rocking horse ****e and command a high price. If it is an EVO II,Johnny Ceccoto,Ravaglia or the other ltd ed(cant remember what they called it)it will have a plaque on the dash showing you what number it is(my EVO 11 was 392)and what ltd edition.EVO II also had the engine painted in the motorsport colours not sure about the other ltd editions.
They are fantastic cars and I wish I still had mine and don`t worry about left hand drive and the dog box.About 20 mins of driving it will feel normal...
Just watch out in car parks, always take a passenger so youcan reach the ticket..

I had one for 3 years it was one of the best cars ive had spend the time finding the right one and you wont regret it, Evo sports are like hens teeth and cost big bucks,In many ways I also wish I still had mine .

About five years ago decided to get an E30 M3 as I'd always wanted one, drove one & was actually disappointed with the performance.
When it was first produced in 86/7 200 odd bhp was super car spec, now it's just above average, although getting it sideways out of a roundabout was deffo fun.

RB5 you lucky bugger...
When I was looking I looked at an EVO sport same colour as yours but it was totally knackered.I was gutted as the pics I saw of it looked amazing but in reality it was a dog..
My dad had a friend who was a BMW mechanic and he was actully trained to service E30 M3s and I remember him telling me about changing the spoiler setting on the Evo sport...Don`t know if it was officially called it but he called it the Nurbergring setting and it just stuck to the road like glue...Only downside is tyres would go after a few thousand miles...

chains are the dodgy thing, they do need changing at around 100,000 miles
That's a typical E30 myth. They need changing "when they need changing" be it 50,000 miles or 200,000 miles. If it needs changing or is showing signs of wear, you'll be able to hear it. Incidently, it's not the chain that wears it's chain wheels.....

They're not about straightline performance, it's the overall package and they are superb.

Did I say I was selling mine? 91H, 72k miles, black, all mots, scuttle done etc
