Just watched a documentary about DeLorean, have always loved these cars despite the fact they are actually a fairly mediocre Stainless Steel bodied Lotus Esprit with a Detuned Volvo 760 motor and a Renault gearbox, the A610 turbo engine will go in though !
Do you think it would be a good proposition, they cost about 10 - 14 grand, a lot of the mechanicals are parts bin and available from Halfords, the rest is available from the USA.
What do you think when you see one, I get a bit excited and get daft ideas, do you just think, look at that **** ?
The prices seem to be steady and they can be insured on classic insurance, i.e. cheap, all leads me to beleive it would be fairly cheap to own once you have bought it and largely depreciation resitant.

Technically it's not a Volvo engine.
The engine was co developed and used in both Peugeot, Renault and Volvo cars. Seeing that Volvo used Renault engines (see Volvo 440 etc), I'd actually say it was more Renault and Peugeot than it was Volvo. It was more likely DMC bought the engine off Volvo, so was declared a Volvo engine.
You gotta love these journalists

I got the impression that, mechanically, they made British Leyland look reliable and well-built. I do think the body is great, but FWIU you'd have to pretty much gut and rebuild it. Maybe I'm wrong. Watch out for decapitation by door, for instance.

The ddors can be a problm, specialist job to set up but not a huge problem, reliability wise, should be pretty much the same as the donor Volvo/Renault, no PAS to worry about and after 22 years you would think most of the issue would have been ironed out one way or another. If bought at the right price I reckon one of these would be a fairly safe place for my money, safer than buying a new Mondeo or a Bug Eye.
Round here its all one upmanship in TT, SL's, Boxsters, Ferraris, etc etc Yawn, De Lorean is so much cooler in every way, doubt you will see another on any given day wheras you run out of fingers (and toes) to count TT's on within 5 mins of leaving home.
