Question Ford GT40 - do genuine roadgoing versions actually exist?

Wrong BBS possibly, but somebody here might know. Only reason i ask is that i saw one yesterday (dark blue, '66 D plate) burbling along as i was filling up, and i couldn't believe that anyone would risk a real one on the public road! It looked fabulous - *far* better in the context of real traffic rather than in a museum etc, and the noise was just incredible - but could it have been real..?!!! Anybody know? Cheers.

Exactly what I was going to say

There was a documentary on yonks ago where he'd hired out a track for him & some friends (long before track days were popular) and he was humping a GT40 round the track. Looked like fun.....

Thumbs up

There are a fair few kit car "copies" out there too, and some folk go as far as getting a "correct" year donor for the plate.

Apparently most of the original ones left are in the US and worth upwards of £100,000

There's one down in Worthing in original Gulf colours - owned by a guy who takes it to Goodwood regularly - he owns an aircraft parts business. Also owns 2 Diablos, 1 Countach, Bentley Turbo, 911 Turbo, couple of Ferraris, Aston Martin Vantage....

God I hate him.
