I would do a search for some Yank car dealers, and contact them see if they can suggest any, they're bound to be into the scene if they're selling them. There is actually one just down the road from my house in Kingston, I'll have a quick search for the URL later and pop it down for you!

What sort of car are you looking for? Most of the UK boards are not heavily populated, but the users are friendly. They tend to be car specific rather than general, for example if you like Mustangs (as some of you know, i do) there is

As far as running costs go fuel is bad, although it depends on how you drive it. My friend had a 281 in a 64 Chevelle, he can get hi teens in his mpg if he drives normally around town. But if he boots it watch the figure halve.
If the car is common then parts tend to be very cheap, Mustangs and the such are not expensive to maintain. They will cost you less in parts than a scooby. A new engine for a stang only costs about £700.

Thanks a lot for the info mate
Not looking for something specific at the moment, i still want to learn more about the car themselves as most my cars so far were Japanese. My dad was an American car afficionado until some years ago(last American car he owned was a mint Firebird Tran-Am Formula Bullnose )
How are all these cars on insurance btw?

Yeah, my dream car is a 69 Charger R/T (the car they used in the Dukes of Hazzard, the one in Bullit is a 68 with the twin round taillights) and they are huge, no wonder they need a 7.2 litre engine

Parts are usually very reasonable, there are many places in the states who will ship to UK.
American autoparts in brigstock road (near crystal palace) will either have or can get most of what you will need. They heve been about for years abd generally know what they are talking about.
Running costs depends on what you get (small block or big block) and how you drive it. A big block driven with enthusiasm will easily get single figure mpg.
I have a 68 GTO (6.6 Ltr) which does about 14mpg, untill heavy use of the right pedal is called for . When driven like my mum would drive it i can get 18mpg.
