Buying a J reg Golf - what to look for ?
A friend is looking at a 92/J reg 1.4 Cl Golf. It has 82k miles on it.
Anything specific I should tell them to look at ????

hi mate had one of these but not the 1.4 is it a mk2 or mk3. look for the rear wheel bearings jack it up and see if there is play in the wheels. also check for rust on the rear arches and the bootlid around the rear windscreen, and number plate. also check the heater matrix and check the bottom pulley which joins on to the crank check if it is straight because if it is bent may fall off and bend your crank.they were known for this. also check if the head is ok cos they were prone to the head getting cracks init.hope that helps

They can seem like somebody has removed the engine and it is coasting, it is actually by virtue of the fact they only produce 64 bhp and weight quite a lot, painful to drive but otherwise quite solid.
