Rep car type thing :dull:
What's best?
So far I am thinking Vectra, Mondeo, 406..........in fact they all suck, but hey!
I dont want to spend more than £2500, it must have 4 doors and a bit of room for someone in the back.
If it lasts a year or 2 then great, it will have paid for itself.
Cheers in advance.

I bought a mondeo for £1,250 a couple of years ago on a 'P' plate .....had a scratch from front to back but other than that was fine. Did me for a year and is still truddling around I see.
Vectra V6, now there is a pretty fair car for the money
406, yuck yuck yuck
What about an old audi or beemer? dont know what you would get for the money though?

You can pick up big engine Omegas for that money. Lots of toys, big boot, boring as hell but one of the best crusiers going.
Saw a MV6 (I think) 3.0 V6 go for £2600 recently, had 85k miles, but good for another 100k.
Cheers

I woudn't mind an Omega but it's a 100 miles round trip and petrol could get expensive!
I already have one car that does crap MPG, I dont want another.
When were the Mondeo's face lifted? The facelift looks awful, but the pre face lift is simply the nastiest car I have ever seen

'97 I think, you'll easily get a facelifted one for your money. 1.8 is a lot more economical than the 2.0 as well, best spec/price is the 1.8LX with air. I think some of them came WITHOUT ABS, I'd want one with it fitted. Might have been standard on the 2.0.

don't knock the mondeos
For sweet fa money they're fairly refined and do actually handle pretty well.
Vectras are nasty, crashy, ****e handlings piles of cr4p.
You could probably get a high miler E36 325tds for that money.........

As an all round car I prefer my 406 to my scooby It's comfy, got lots of toys and far cheaper to run but very fast in a straight line and I catch people out with the performance all the time. They never expect a roasting from a 406

i've had several mondeos and rated them all. mkII 1.8 was probably the most boring but it was still a pretty competent car. mkIII 2.0 was lively, prone to wheel spin, and understeer if you took your foot off the gas. missus currently drives the latest model TDCi - i just drove it to scotland and back and it really is a very good car. probably the best all round motor that ford have made to date, IMO (excluding performance models).
