According to the Autocar road test on 5th August 1987...
0-60 - 7.3secs
0-100 - 23.2secs
1/4 Mile - 16.0secs @ 86mph
They're pretty quick off the mark, but as the speeds rise they run out of puff in standard form. They've only got 120bhp and don't run much boost from the factory, so not as quick as most people probably think.
However, a minor tweak of the boost really wakens them up, and it's easy to get 150bhp by doing very little and they will run like this safely for a long time.
Quite quick then as 150bhp goes a long way in a car only weighing 830kg!

I think its around the 16 second mark, in standard form a GTti(100bhp and 800kg) will do the quarter in 16.4, and they're about half a second slower to sixty than an R5GTT in standard trim.

with the right mods, I have seen R5GTT runnning into the 12 sec and 13 bracket for the quarter mile....
These cars have lots of potential....
I had a 180 BHP R5 and it was very quick! could quite easily see off bigger engined cars...

The following is from personal experiences and participation. A lot depends on the track conditions and getting that 'sweet run'.
All the standard ones (120bhp) at the pod used to do it in the Early 17's. (depending on the track grip at the start)
People with standard T2 turbos with boost upgrades and exhausts (155bhp) were getting mid 15's to High 14's, again dependent on the grip available at the line (they spin wheels as boost kicks in).
Hybrid T2/T25 equiped cars running 170bhp-180bhp will give low 14's.
Fully modded cars, Hybrid/exhaust/heads/cams/L&B were doing mid-late 13's, although these cars are looking at 190-250bhp.
Specials (demo cars etc) upto 300bhp, have been known to crack the 12's (including my old car , but not when I owned it ).
The best size wheels are 13in for drag strip and the fronts should be soft and the rears hard to help grip. Whether you strip the car out and fit a full throttle gear change can also help.

You try finding a "genuine" 300bhp gtt! There are so many bu115h1t power claims in the 5 world it's unbelievable!! I only know of 3 5's that have hit over 300 bhp. And one of those was bb tunings demo car and it was ran on their own rollers, hmmmm
The 1/4 mile record for a single engined gtt was broken a couple of weeks ago and it now stands at 12.61 seconds. This is my mates car and it's running around the genuine 250bhp mark.

Is that the blokey from Croydon with the two Montego intercoolers welded together?
If I remember right, we also had some fuel injectors on the outer two pistons.
All home grown/made stuff, which was impressive.
