Default Yet another Hi-Lux question!

With my Impreza insurance due for renewal and me being skint, plus I need to do a lot of work in my garden over the next few months, I'm considering getting a Hi-Lux pick up.

I wouldn't want to spend more than around £4k so what sort of spec will I get for that kind of money?

Whats considered high mileage for one of these?

How easy is a truckman top to get on and off?

Does anyone have one and want to swap it for a MY93 WRX?

Would you be interested in an old Range Rover at a similar price?
1988 Vogue, 3.5V8, LPG converted (boot tank), towbar etc etc
Hiluxes at that price, tend to be the 2 door ones - I'm thinking around j-l reg. They're good cars though. Lots in the auto trader.

I bought one not too long ago, a single cab 4x4.

Mine's a 97P with only 13,000 miles.

I love it. I'm in't trade anyway, and am doing up a house as well, so it suits me down to the ground.

Initially I was slightly disappointed: the ride was terrible. The problem was the tyre pressures: Toyota assume that you will be constantly carrying 20 terrorists in the back, so quote the factory tyre pressures at 26 front/46 rear. Hilux's are light at the back, and mine is always empty: taking 20psi out of the back tyres worked a miracle.

Mine also seemed very slow at first, especially compared with my father's new Shogun 3.1TD Commercial (a stripped down thing that literally goes like a hot hatchback). However with daily useage, and taking into account that it has never done anything, it now seems to be loosening up a treat.

Now I love it. Don't expect car-like refinement, these things are working tools. But like all good tools, they do the intended job perfectly, and seem able to stand up to enormous punishment.

Factor in reliability, 27mpg, and an extrordinary reluctance to depreciate at the price you are looking at, and you cannot go wrong.

I would buy on condition and price, not so much mileage.

Franx, thanks for the offer but I need a pick-up, I don't fancy carrying all my garden rubbish in the back of a Rangey

Olly, is yours the diesel or petrol? Whats it like on the motorway, my morning commute consists of mainly mway/dual carriageway driving, but only 20 mins total.

Found someone selling a double cab for £4500, which could be perfect!

Mine's a diesel

Can't really comment on the motorway, haven't actually taken it on one yet. Although on a good A road, it will plod along nicely at 70 with the radio turned up.
