good point not tried with lid on yet. how did you lower the seats? at the moment they are fitted with H plates onto the standard sub frames? not great but a lot cheaper than the £60 eachish for frames from demon tweaks,

met,

Use some flat bar to make brackets to mount the seats direct to the sliders - This will lower your seats approx. 1".

Let me know if you want a roll-cage - I have 10pt. OMP cages available for a 205 (complete with door bars).

Kev.

thats what i did use, the flat bar adapters direct to the sliders from the original subframes, the method i used retained the tilt & slide mechanism which does make the seats feel a little unstable in hard corners as their is still some movement, is it possible to strip the subframes further to lower them then?

yes poss int in the cage mate, how much & where are you based?

Looking good mate ..... not far off the same set up as mine, red cobra monaco's etc. Get yourself a safety devices job and its cracked.

I was on the track in mine on Saturday.... Can't get it to oversteer no matter what I do or how stupidly I drive it. It does understeer a bit though.
DW .... any idea if changing the tyres (i have liquorice allsorts on at the mo) will make a difference and reduce understeer? Just bought a set of Yoko's for £40 each and im hoping they might make a difference? They go on tomorrow and I need it sorted for Germany on friday.

I once put Yoko A539's (I think thats what they were) on my old 1.6 GTi. They were amazing, and changed the front end grip by loads.

The theory is grippy tyres on the front, which should upset the rear, so they should change the dynamics.

DW now there is a coincidence, I have just got off the phone and ordered a set of four Yoko's for £160 the lot, including fitting etc. I thought that was a cracking deal. The question is should I put them on all round or run the Yoko's on the front with their excellent stickability and leave the rears with the Kumo's that will be slightly less sticky??? Would that work in getting rid of understeer I wonder? Front end grippy and rear slightly less...

met,

The sub-frames can be stripped down to the sliders only - They should all un-bolt from memory, but you need to drill out the rivits on a guard plate on the inside of ea. runner.

Cages are £290 Del.

DW,

Full cages only.

Well unless you are a millionaire I would say a couple of grand is a fortune, especially when its just on a weekend car.

Mines cost £3k now and to me that is a lot for something which is just for playing with

when you consider that a 1.9gti can be bought for about £400ish. this has cost my around £3k now which is a "fortune" on an old car that will be used a few times a year, the cage & brace will cost about £600ish, then the brake upgrade taking it to about £4k you are into cheap westfield money & 2wd saff cossies, so from £400 -£4k a big jump, 10 times the buy price. proportionatly you would struggle to spend 10 times the buy price on say a UK 2000 bought for £10k
great car to drive though cheers for the positive comments

I did excatly the same- my 205 stands me at about £3500, but I've put an Mi16 in it.

That figure doesn't include labour tho....

And at that point I went and bought a proper racer. Anyone want to buy a properly sorted Mi16 205 track car???

I took my 205 GTI to GoodWood yesterday, not the best weather for a track day but the Pug was fantastic fun sliding around in the wet.

I couldn't keep up with any of the scoobies and the car did lack power on the long straights...my M5 was hitting 140mph while the Pug was hitting about 110mph.

I also had a set of brand new Yoko A539's which got better as the day progressed and the track dried.

Looking forward to a dry track as I think I'll be able to embarress a few cars.

Dom

PS- Pug has uprated brakes, suspension, high lift cam and a big zorst.

Sorry guys but I'm just thinking that it is not mega money for the giant killing performance you get (particularly with Mi16's). I spent £8-9K on my old Golf VR6 but that was wickedly quick on track!

A fortune is the amount of depreciation my 03 WRX has lost in the last 12 Months!

Mitcheldever tyres near basingstoke Hants.

They are superb on tyre prices, if you get a manufacturer that they heavily stock, if you know what I mean.

Just gotta scrub them in now ready for the weekend ..... gotta go see if i can upset the odd scoob or two

Mitcheldever are great - thats where my Speedlines were refurbed (by the original owner) and they did each one for £47. The finish is unreal, they still look like new.

Gary/Met - what are the Cobra Monacos like? I need a bucket, but it needs to be wide for my lardy ***. Also, I cant decide whether to get 1 or 2 - anyone got any pics with just one bucket in?

Fancying the Corbeau Sprint at £200

Cobra Monaco is ok ........ My drivers one squeaks a fair bit, but other than that its pretty supportive. The subframes seem pretty good and hold me in place well. I think im gonna struggle with wearing me lid though, not enough head room around the cage me thinks. Should have fabricated a frame and bolted it direct to that. Might still do it when i get the time.

I saw a nice 205 on the track at the weekend with a pair of Corbeau seats in it and they were really nice looking. Big wrap around, around the shoulder area if you know what i mean. I think the guy said they were £180 each.

I did think about one seat only, but it makes the car a bit anti social and no good for trips to the 'ring' with the missis

Oh and yeah Mitcheldever are the daddies for sure ......well organised, i have used them for years as they are only 5 miles down the road

DW, get side mounted of you can. Gives more height options, and are a bit more stable in the event of an 'off'.

Corbeau do some good sub-frames, but you are always going to struggle with headroom if you use the original mounting points.

Yeah the original mounts can be taken out and then new ones fabricated in. Not sure if you can still move the chair forwards and backwards though?

The other point and its only a minor one, is that when you are mounted so low in the car the sun becomes a problem with glare etc. A sun strip isn't wide enough to stop it from blinding you. If you get a wider one the law doesnt like it, if you use the car on the road of course.

Dont even know if I will keep it now.

Just got an insurance quote from HIC, cheapest and best about - £1450 FC

I am 30, 7 NCD, no points, no claims etc

Tesco renewal is £420, but thecover is not what I want, and they are odd about mods.
