Default New car for the wife

My wife has a 2 year old Yaris SR. We would like to change it for something a bit more practical and bigger.

The short list we have is the Merc A Class (not sure as there has been alot of bad press about these with respect to quality), the Audi A2, and maybe the Mazda 323.

Anyone else got any ideas ?? Looking to spend about 6k, dont want an Alfa or a Fiat, she doesnt want a Vauxhall or a Ford. Defintely not a Renault Clio !!!!! Possibly a 5 dr Pug 206 though.

Would be interested to hear peoples view on the above cars I have mentioned !!!

Dave

We've run a A160 elegance (manual) for the last couple of years & had no issues at all with it. There is an independant Merc dealer in Caversham who is half the price of the main dealers & twice as helpful.
It's been a good car for my wife to run around in and the height is handy for getting mini Dunk in & out of it, (without having to drive a bus or 4x4).
We'll be getting rid of it shortly to get a Picasso as another is on the way.

RX8 may be a little more than £6k methinks

Anyhoo - my suggestion would be something like a Saab 9-3 - practical and fast and a bit more prestige than most

I've hired out manual Merc A140's twice and done lots of miles each time.

Have to say I was very impressed by them. Surprisingly nippy and surefooted, especially on the motorway. Very easy to drive and a commanding view for a car this size.

As for quality, they seemed to cope with the rigours of being a hire car very well.
