RIP 1988 Escort
This morning the clutch failed, after 217,000 miles. The arm on top of the transmission moves without resistance. Thanks to some very forgiving synchronizers, I was able to drive it home easily, but re-starting from a traffic signal is interesting because I had to start the engine while in first gear.
That's the end of the car, I'm afraid. It would have been 16 years old in June, and it is very worn and battered. I don't have the facilities or the budget to perform the repair, which begins with removing the transmission.
*sigh* the car is now destined to forever wander the flowering meadows of memory...
