"For lucky drivers of this hot car, here's how: Switch off the stability system and select shift program six. Switch the engine to sport mode. With the hand shifter in drive, hold it in the downshift position and press the gas pedal. The engine will rev to the preprogrammed rpm and hold. Now release the shifter. The car will launch forward violently and the engine's revs will climb quickly, so be prepared to upshift."

Ok im really baffled, isnt the SMG a semi auto box anyway? so why do you need to "up shift" it as it does it itself doesnt it?

Depends whether it's in "A" mode (automatic gearchanges) or "S" (you have to change using the stick or the paddles)

Tony, The M3 SMG gearbox is a automated manual gearbox and not a semi auto box like Porsche's tiptronic.
Launch control only works in sequential mode and not in auto that's why it will not upshift, however the M3 CSL does automatically upshift on launch control!
