Boxter "s"
Had a blast in one Saturday, they Sound like they are going a lot faster than they are! Superb noise around 7k!! The seats are crap, you sit on them rather than in them, (might be my fat ****!!). But quite honestly didn't feel as quick as the Scoob. And I bet I couldn't get my two grandkids in either!!!

I agree with what you say about the car, as a two seater sports car it's up there with the best. Just not what I expected, that's all I was saying! I didn't expect the spanish inquisition!!!

I wouldnt have a regular boxster, too slow, but the S is a fantastic car. Handles superbly, goes brilliantly etc etc. They arent cheap, but like someone else says the residuals are very good.

I was a bit dubious about them until a mate took me out. Raced him in my bog standard Scoob 218bhp and he toasted me.
Interior wasnt what I imagined for that money and he had to replace speakers as blown. But great drivers car - awesome handling as so low down, brakes were very impressive compared to my scoobs 4 pots.
As you say sound is very good at top revs especially when in the car. Cant beat it for a roadster. Wouldnt bother with the standard boxster though.
I think they have a slightly poor rep due to so many ponces driving them like miss daisy - gives joe public the wrong impression. All the better for owners who like to drive them though I suppose.

My Boss has a Boxster S. Its well nice. We think that my Scoob is faster (although we haven't verified this ). I'd still prefer his Boxster to my Scoob though. A different class.

If a Boxster S is a poor mans car, I sure wish I was poor as I cant afford a 2nd hand one let alone a new one. Does that make a 360 a poor mans ferrari compared to an Enzo, F40/50, 575m etc etc????

The same poorer people who could have bought 2 Impreza WRXs instead?

funny that the bloke who says boxters a poor mans car drives a wrx and has allready commented on how it has rattles and no lining in the boot.....i doubt many of the "poor" ppl on boxter sites moan about their rattles!

A full spec Boxster S is well over the cost of a used 996 from a dealer so there are plenty of people out there who can afford a 996 but instead choose a Boxster. For some people, the Boxster S is a far more resolved driving experience than a 996, and on bumpy, narrow wet UK roads, much quicker too.
I have a 2.7 Boxster and although your average Burburry cap in his 84 Impreza could outrun me on in the Halfords car park, I couldn't give a monkeys - the Boxster (any Boxster) is beautifully engineered, fantastically well finished, sounds lovley and has sublime handling.
If you think that for some reason every Boxster owner is crushed under the social, moral and financial inferiority of not having a 911, then I think that is probably your problem and not ours.

Funny you should mention that. Anyone read Honest John in Motoring Telegraph this weekend ? ........ The pendulous Porsches .... not all beautifully engineered apparently. BANG goes another Teutonic myth, like my neighbour's self igniter Boxster .... mind you, that fire was of superior build quality apparently.

I don't think anyone is claiming that every single Boxster ever made is hewn from granite, it's not reasonable to think that no company makes no errors.
However, compared to most cars from most manufacturers I believe the Boxster is very well screwed together.
You will always find someone who's had problems, that's life.

I have to agree on the poor man's porsche i'm afraid.... It's not that hard to buy a boxster with a baloon payment and the residual value. I like the best of everything and while the boxster is a fine car, i'd always be wondering what i'm missing in the 911, carrera....
Hence why I bought the P1, and now have a WR1 on order... (Don't want to get into a debate about best impreza) Thats IMO....
I find the Boxster and now the M3 too common, and I just like to be different. If i wasn't in the middle of a house purchase I think I would have gone for a Noble... Each to there own I guess and just last night had a discussion on why you buy a car...
To sum up in one sentence, i decided it's how the car makes me feel when I drive it... Not what it looks like, not the badge, not whether you can take the roof off,
Just my opinion??

"The poor man's..." anything is a very poor argument. Sure, if every potential Boxster customer magically had 60K+ to spend when they got to the showroom, then they would most likely drive away in a Carrera. If every STi driver had 100k to spend on one car... well, he wouldn't be in a Subaru would he?
STi ... the poor man's Ferrari.
