Rich D - Renault 5 GT turbo advice please
Hi, am in the market for one of these, is yours for sale?
If memory serves me correctly perhaps you have a white 80000 mile example.
If yours is not for sale, perhaps you could tell me what to look out for.
Thanks

Seems there aint many good examples left now, in fact there aint many at all left no matter what they're like as I had a quick look in the AutoTrader a few days ago for the lads that are interested in mine.
First thing I'd do is to read this >>> http://www.rtoc.org/articles/article.asp?ArticleID=119
It's gonna give you an idea of what to look for. Also a good idea to join the owners club at www.rtoc.org then you can access the knowledge of the members on there who will gladly help you out.
You also get discount on insurance, parts, etc... so it's well worth a tenner!
This is mine >>>
Your memory was correct, a nice white example with about 85k miles on the clock.
Most important thing IMO is bodywork!
Anything mechanical can be sorted easily and nothing is majorly expensive, however as these cars are now all teens of years old rust is something you really wanna avoid. My first GTT just rotted away, so I ended up breaking it and when I got the white one I bought it with a blown engine as I was really after a car with good bodywork.
If you need anything else, just ask...

I met a guy a while back (happens to live opposite my mum) who had a late R5 GT Turbo in MINT condition. Think it was G reg and probably had 10-15K miles on the clock. Immaculate condition, I think he's the 2nd owner and has basically mothballed it for the last 5 years. He mentioned that he wanted to get rid of it in the near future. How much is something like this worth?

One you could be interested in...
My brother has a Renault 5 Turbo dry stored in his garage at the moment. Hes a big fan of turbo charged renaults and ran an R11 Turbo for many years so he knows them back to front mechanically.
This is what he has just sent through to me.
************************************
Basically it is,
H reg 1990 Renault 5 GT Turbo in White. The car is taxed and has approximately 6 months MOT (only done about 2K since last MOT). It has 73K on the clock that I have verified on the national mileage register.
Only summer miles and dry stored for the last 4 years. Currently in my garage and has not even been driven other than the occasional run up and down the road for the past 5 months. The shell is in top condition, if you run your figures along the sill joins there is not a single bubble or spot of rust. The sills inside the door frames are a pretty much unmarked and there is no rust what so ever. The boot floor is mint. The interior is also it great condition, there are no rips in the seats, however the bolster on the lower part of the drivers seat is not perfect but is just slightly miss shaped as a result of getting in and out.
The car is totally standard apart from a stainless exhaust (previous owner fitted) and dump valve. The exhaust is a scorpion one with a 3" tail pipe. The dump valve is a bailey piston type. In addition the gearbox is super smooth. I have had many Renaults (including a R11 Turbo) and it is the best gearbox I have ever driven, there is not the usual 3rd gear crunch. It has the standard alloys, standard suspension and brakes.
There is little history before I purchased this car but I have maintained it regardless of cost and have plenty of receipts for parts. The previous owner showed me his passport to verify that he had indeed been out of the country most of the time that he owed the car and had a receipt for the storage of the vehicle (hence the dry storage period). I love this car, but I have a 205 gti rally project that I need my garage for, I will be very sad to see it go.
I can send you pictures if you are interested, but the car currently has no grill on because it got scratched when I was moving things around my garage so it is currently being resprayed.
I am asking £2600ono.
When I bought this car, I looked around and saw a lot of Renault 5s. You will be hard pushed to find a better one.
Simon Gratton.

So.... give him a bell on 07900 240665 or drop him a mail to simon.gratton@fastracksoftware.co.uk
The car is indeed mint. I was fortunate enough to have a drive when it was sunny last year and it drives like a much much newer car. I would buy this myself to keep but I also don't have storage space.
Regards
Ian.

They are great little cars. Its just a real shame so many have been so badly abused and ruined by people. These cars are so hard to find now in good condition. It seems all my fave cars from my late teens are disappearing of the face of the earth.
If I had somewhere to store a car collection I would start one - I think 3 cars is more than enough for the time being.

Nah,
that wouldn't be fair on the R5 - it would end up being a commute car and ruin it. I think the person that buys my brothers car will hopefully appreciate they have a bit of motoring/hot hatch history and look after it.
Besides, the smart scares the crap out of people when you overtake them at speeds I won't commit to on here

davegtt,
It certainly is Mike and Rach's GTTurbo, we've not been on the renault turbo owners club seen for a few years now but we still love the Raider to bits and can't get rid. It would be like selling a part of the family.
Your phase II looks stunning and its nice to see that it hasn't got one of those ridiculous big body kits on it that seem to be all the rage at the moment(just my opinion and no offence mean't if thats what your planning with the phase I ).

Well,
I knew it wouldn't be around for long. The first person that came to see my brothers 5 has purchased it. Interestingly the chap who came to buy it also took a shine to my brothers mint condition Punto GT Turbo (it previously my wifes - totally mint) - and he is buying that as well.
So - I think my brother will now get a 200sx for drifting - watch out !!!
