Subaru Sti or Evo 8?
Just been to the Geneva car show....
Both cars are on sale at the same price!
50 000 swiss francs roughly £20 000!!!!
Which would you choose and why?
Plums.

Chuck as ever, is the voice of wisdom
Both stonking cars, I guess it comes down to what you prefer. Evo's for me have always been a little more extreme than Scoobs. Their suspension can make a Scoob feel soft!
I doubt you would be disappointed with either.

Yup I'm the voice of reason..which is why I'm currently running 3 cars and a motorbike with a combined value of more than I paid for my house 6 years ago and a little under 1000bhp LOL

Hi,
I've owned both STi-Prodrive V7's and Tommi Makinen Evo 6's, 2 of each. These are both slightly different vehicles to the ones that you describe. That said, I feel that that the Mitsubishi is superior in almost every dynamic area. The Subaru is good, well fantastic, but the Evo is that little bit better. More driveable and more communicative and subtley better. I don't believe you will find someone who has owned both that would say the Subaru is better, but it is degrees of brilliance. Although I believe the Subaru to play second fiddle, I reckon it to be a phenomenal car (as well). It is also cheaper. Don't forget, that compared to 'normal' cars, either of which you would choose are miles ahead.
Hope this helps, Meridian

Cheers guys!
Gonna take the wife to the Motor show this week.....
So it will give me chance to take a closer look!
In Switzerland we only have the 265 bhp model available, but engine wise is it the same as the FQ300/ FQ330.
Looking at the technical details on www.mitsubishi-cars.co.uk the three models share the same engine, ecu, brakes, can anyone confirm this?
Is the 265 bhp just a detuned FQ300 with the same engine components?
On the website the only difference was tyres, power and interior gadgets.
Many thanks,
Plums.

i tested an 7 FQ300...ride felt fine to me and no worse than my MY01 scoob....only prob was it was really boring and had an interior like my brothers 106 so when you got bored of its one trick it was a pretty iffy pony! (although that also applied to the scoob so maybe its me )

I can understand that the exhaust is different, But in Mitsubishi specs the ECU is the same for the 3 models?
Pistons, injectors, turbo are they the same as well?
If it is this would be one very easy beast to tune!

having just changed from a STI7 PPP +loads of brake/suspension mods,to a EVO8 FQ300,just cannot believe the difference in handling,no understeer, instant sharp reaction to every move of the wheel, and sticks to the road much better than my STI even with all the suspension mods i did,and the EVO is still standard,so in my honest opinion the STI is one hell of a great car but the EVO8 FQ300 is just just in a different league...

Plums! - we may have been at the show at the same time (my piccies here)
Before I got my STi7 I wanted an Evo7 but in France they didn't sell 'em at that time. They are starting to do so this year but the Evo8 at 265bhp just doesn't entice me although the FQ330 certainly would !
Pretty good show this year.

After 3 Scoobies (present sti7 type uk +ppp) I have finally been seduced by the dark side and ordered the new evo8 (+1/2) FQ300 MR (which may "evolve" into a 330 )
The scoobies are great cars and probably better all rounders but the Evos are IMHO more focused and "cart" like to drive, the steering is very direct and the car feels more responsive and involving than my scooby.
Just my opinion but if you are going to put up with a spartan interior, crap ride etc in seach of the most rewarding to drive 4wd 5 seater the Evo is the choice of the heart, however the scooby is the choice of reason
It will be very interesting to see how many on here go for the new 260.
If you are in the market for a WRX with ppp it must be a consideration. I will be interested to drive one to see how close it is to my fq300/sti7, I bet the differance is not that much, although the dealers will talk it down to potential evo customers as it must be a threat to sales of the more expensive evos.
Probably the bargain of this year!

Evo 260 has a different intake manifold, ecu, exhaust system with 2 cats, a small rear spoiler (2k to upgrade to the proper one) and a five speed gearbox.
Not a good choice if you are going to want to mod really.
The current full on evo will be superceeded by the MR range in April with bilstien suspension and more ali in the body construction.

Plums!, I went on Friday as I heard the Swiss President and his entourage were going to be there Thursday so I decided to avoid them by going on Friday
Would I be right in thinking you are in Meyrin/Grand Sacconex? I'm just over the border in St Genis - blue STi7 with stickers on the top of the boot spoiler and below the TTW number plate on the back - if you see me, be sure to wave
A few of the local scooby owners are getting together for a mini-meet and a couple of beers next Thursday at the St George pub near the Pont Butin if you are interested in joining us?

[hijack alert]
I know a couple of guys working in CERN running scoobs which can be a costly enough proposal. Didn't think CERN paid enough for the purchase of a house in Geneva...or put another way...I'm in the wrong business

It doesn't that's why I'm scoobless!!!!!
I'm now driving round in a ford Ka! I'm 31 and this is the least powerful car I've ever owned!
I've got 260 meters of living space to make up for it though!
Plums!
P.S. Off to Palexpo again tonight..... love it!
P.P.S Sold my scooby to a very cool Mr Pete Burkel (CERN) I see the car quite often.... hurts like hell!

I know Pete ! See him on the road quite often in the WRX - he's taking good care of it, making sure it's being seen I'm trying to get him to come to the mini-meet next week and also to the Bourgogne run in April with the french webclubbers here, under "Sorties". Should be good as the roads around that region were made for scoobies - nice and twisty in and around the vineyards!

Ive been having a similar dillemma in thinking of replacing my TypeR.
I was probaly going EVO as Ive got Friends with them, -
Until the 2.5ltr bottom end group Buy started.
A low lag 400+bhp 6speed STI just seemed a good next car.
In another two years time - Who knows.

If you see Pete tell him I'm glad he changed his parking spot......
I don't see it every day now!
Before it was just to painful.... I had to keep changing my route!
Have a good trip out.....
