Question New Car Advice

Im just in the process of clearing all my debts and hopefully within next month, i will be free of debts and have a few grand in my pocket.

Im 24, ive got a years ncb, an sp30 from sept '99 and one accident in 2001.
My monthly income is just over £1400, and outgoings are £200 house keep and insurance obviously. I still live at home as waithing for gf to finish uni and get a job til we get a house.

I owned a GTI-R before and loved it, but the unreliability caused me to get into debt.

The question is, do I get another 2nd hand car or get one brand new.
With a 2nd hand one, ive got the thing of repairs and cost of repairs when something goes horribly wrong, or just pushing it into the dealer and getting them to deal with it,lol.

Finacially wise, am I in the right situation to get a new one, cos a mate said, get like a CTR, keep it for 3 years, then either give it back or keep it, or trade in for another one.
That appeals to me as it would be nice to have a new car with warranty.

But then, keeping costs down would be to just get a GT4 or something?

as if this question is not enough, can anyone drop any ideas as to what cars to choose.

many, many thanks in advance

Tony

Basically, work out how much the car would lose in depreciation over say 3 years (or however long you're gonna keep it!). Most cars lose at least 50%. So on a £15k car, it will lose £7500. That's £2500 per year. Will any 2nd hand car cost £2,500 per year, every year to run??
