Someone has put one in a car before!

I see the engine for sale is complete with supercharger, however I was under the impression that these were good for *just* 1200hp.... a little bit of ebay embellishment methinks!

yes but its 1200 bhp at 20'000 feet! The late ones were running over 2000bhp at low level but somthing like a thousand at altitude.

some of the earlier sea racing planes using uprated merlins were running well over 2000bhp ... Wonder what the Reno air racers are getting out of them these days ?

Don't forget this is a later Mark XX too.

What do you mean "and do what with it"? I'd wheel it round to the local old folks home and start a panic amongst the senile

BWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRHHHHHHHH HHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!

"Oooh, Ethel, get in the nissin hut!"

EDIT: to be fair I was looking for either a Napier Deltic or Paxman Valenta but a Merlin could well do the job

IIRC Rolls-Royce actually put a detuned version of this engine in a road car!!

Now a merlin engine in a modern Roller is mad...But, now think of a 1940's Rolls Royce with a Merlin engine complete bonkers!!

Same thing I'd want a Merlin for, just making a noise

English Electric motor would be good too, but a Deltic would be the sweetest find.

You want a Griffon 58 engine out of a Shackelton mr2aew. They put out 2455hp from a 36L v12 and I believe they up the boost considerably for tractor pulling to make well over 4000hp.
They sold a load to the local scrappy when 8Sqn moved from Lossiemouth. I think he gave the RAF £2000 each for them. Bargain!

Rolls Royce own a Spitfire with a Griffon engine, built for reconnoisance work with no weapons. Extremely fast aircraft! You can tell from the pitch of the prop blades that it has a griffon as it spins the opposite way to the merlin. There is two Spitfires and a Mustang stored at BAE in Filton where I used to work. One Spitfire was the Rolls Royce owned Griffon powered one, the other Spitfire and the Mustang belonged to a private collector!
