It makes you feel a little smug!! just pulled these off the CTR & LCR websites
I struggled on way to work, can was slidding all over the road where as other cars seemed fine.
Just hope there is no ice on way back home.
Snow...aarrrgh...I've just tried to go up a slight hill in my cupra and failed.
I had to stop on the hill for the traffic lights and once they changed I discovered that regardless of whether the TCS was on or off I couldn't move.

To make matters worse a VW Golf which was behind me just pulled out and sailed passed me. I had to reverse down the hill and turn around.

I guess this is the only time of year that I don't want the wide tyres and a turbo.

I guess for the few days of snow we get a year I should just leave the cupra at home
There's just no substitute for four wheel drive sometimes eh!!!
dave

The solution has been known for decades and is in the damn driving theory books, use 2nd or 3rd gear when pulling off in snow.

You don't need homologation special Imprezas to get from A to B in England.

imprezas though 4X4 arent much better than any other car, too much power, tyres too wide - Im in an S2000 now and in all honesty it was not much worse than the scoob in the snow......the worst cars are fwd power houses like the civic, I had a 306 GTI and in the snow 2 wheels at the front with that much power was a nightmare

Talking

I was laughing this morning at someone in a new M3 convertible, couldn't have gone slower round the roundabout if they'd tried.

Some people have throttle control, others treat it like an on/off switch. Simple as that.

ADP... Couldnt agree more mate, I am driving a S2 RS Turbo at the moment, and its got about 185bhp going thru the front wheels, it is a complete nightmare. I have been pulling off in 3rd gear and going straight into wheelspin!!

Tyres are Toyo Proxies, which wont be helping it any!!

Cheers,
Grant

Reading this I'm amazed they sell Volvo's in Sweden, they obviously only sold as summer cars...........

Or they could all be using the right tyres?

I have a 185BHP SAAB turbo FWD and it's great in the snow - I think you'l find it's down to tyre choice - mine has nearly new michelins.. I don't think performance tyres work very well on snow due to the tread designs ??

there is no good tyre in the snow OTHER than a winter/snow tyre sure a nearly dead set of regular tyres wont help. Your best off in a litte metro or something, low power, narrow tyres to cut through the snow, easy to handle/catch - and cheap so if you crash you dont ding 25k worth of STI

I've gotta say that I've had no real problems with my 330d. Sure, over 300ft/lbs of torque makes for an interesting drive, but pulling away in 2nd and short-shifting has been fine. This is with 255/35/18's putting the power down.

4WD, AWD, FWD and RWD are all useless though if the driver doesn't have his/her head screwed on. The number of muppets I've seen wheelspinning without reason is enormous.

My ITR's been fine, despite needing to pull away on full lock to go in a straight line a couple of times

I spent an entertaining couple of hours at our station carpark watching cretins in huge BMWs thinking the answer was to boot it harder. Oh, and every 4x4 (which is the only other kind of car in Beaconsfield) had engaged low ratio and was driving at 1mph. LOL!
