I meant to post this a while back. I went to Tenerife over Christmas and hired a Ford Ka (the basic one with no PAS or electric anything).
Fooking hell what a laugh those cars are, nippy enough most of the time and the handling was amazing, gripy as hell and really progressive when it did let go. Thanks to the lack of power assist, the steering feel was brilliant.
Looks like a bloody roller skate but a top car in my book.
Driving up Mt. Teide from Escalona was a hoot. Managed to overtake 5 cars in one hit (you could see the road winding up the mountain for miles) with an Audi A4 2.7 Quattro up my ****. After half a kilometre I'd left him behind and didn't see him again until a 2km straight when he came flying past, so it's safe to say he was trying
28mpg shows how much fun I was having

I agree, have had a couple while over in Ibiza, wanted a Clio at first but didn't have one in so he gave me the Ka until the clio arrived, needless to say I didn't return to swap!!

Have had a couple as courtesy cars as I used to own a Mondeo...
Got annoyed when they gave me it first, then within 30mins I was enjoying chucking it about!!
Used a HUGE straight, a large(ish) hill and trying hardest on empty tank of petrol........ got an Indicated 121mph!! lol...
Cheers,
Grant

We bought one as a second car/city car....
Corners like a dog! Great in the twisties!
Love it so much we're gonna buy the sport ka later on in the year! Should be a real blast 95 bhp and as heavy as a packet of crisps!
Plums.

Just think how nippy it would have been if they dumped that ancient heavy cast iron engine. I know they have now finally dumped them in favour of something semi-modern (8 valve SOHC). But there is no excuse for Ford to use them for the past 6 odd years production
Good car, but Ford can do better (RS Ka anyone? )
edit: to point out engines are different on latest models

The Ka isn't a fast car, but it's a great drive and that's more important in many cases than beating everyone away from the lights.
My other car is a 1.25ltr Zetec-SE Fiesta and that's not quick to 60 either but chassis is fantastic and the handling is superb. The gearing also makes it feel very quick and it gets great economy (the reason for not getting a 1.6 Zetec-S!).

In my case it usually WAS the traffic light dash that I needed (and thus my suprise as how slow most modern super minis are) Not that I'm racing, I just seem to get in these situations from time to time in rush hour traffic out the city. I think it was the attitude "I don't want to be stuck behind that rusty old banger all the way back home" by the other parties that sparked all these mad dashes off from the lights - I just oblige
KA's do handle, but so does a Fiesta, Nissan Sunny, Saxo, 106 etc.
Perhaps I should lay off the Ka bashing in this "appreciation" Thread
Ali-B keepin' it real

And they are suprisingly roomy inside. Went to an airshow ages ago in my mums ka with my brother(6'7") and dad (6'3") and I'm 6'5".
No room for anything else but we all fitted !

I used to hate them when they first came out....Under-powered, engine designed in the dark ages. They looked like they were wearing nappies (from the back).
Thankfully most bumpers are now colour coded and as previously mentioned they come with decent(ish) engines.
Never driven one myself...
Vindaloo.

Always been a Ka fan. A standard one with PAS and no frills would do me nicely. Driven a few, but never owned one.
Helped to fettle a Ka in the Ka rally championship for 4 years, and co-drove in one over Epynt a couple of years ago. As a rally car, they handle beautifully, and are as tough as old boots. Ours always went well, especially once a nice Tommy Fields blueprinted motor was slotted in.
Still fancy slotting a 1.8 Zetec into one when I get some spare time. But then again I fancy a lot of things

I've not missed the point
They do handle as I've already said. But so do other little cars.
IMO I prefered the MK1 Saxo 1.1 (before they made it lardy). A tin can I know, but more of a hoot to drive in terms of handling and oomph.
Ka's always seemed too girly for me anyway

Mrs D's had one for over 3 years now (like Steve Sherwen she also went for the shagpile & leather)And it always putS a bigger smile on my face than the scoob has ever managed. You have to forget everything you've learned driving modern superminis with their rev-happy torque-free engines & drive them using the torque, they also loosen up nicely with a few quick miles on 'em.

I was lucky enough to go along to a track day to drive the new Sport Ka with Evo (See next month's issue!)
I was mightly impressed, with such a fantastic chassis, who cares about the cars lack of power!
Fantastic motor

My vanity mirror was on the passenger side, my mate's was on the drivers side
If you think they handle well as standard then wider wheels, a cage, dropped 80mm on coilovers is quite a capable little car
My engine is out for a nice little conversion
