anyone able to give me an idea of what i should pay for a low mileage (<30k miles) rover 1.8k series, a la MGF/Elise (and from anything else?) and anywhere that would be a good source? I live in N.I. so if on mainland then preferably somewhere up north

Don't know about up North but if you draw a blank with the major car salvage sites off the shelf (who get mountains of late stuff from the Insurance companies - but at a price), then place a similar request for info. on these two enthusiasts' sites.

Engine is available from numerous other cars, IIRC, such as Rover 600, Rover 45, MGZR, MGZS, Rover 75 etc.
Lots of worthwhile tuning things to be done on them, too. One cheap power boost - replace the throttle body with one from the old Metro GTi.

PS, again IIRC, my dad paid about £600 or so for a 20,000 miler from an MGF. With throttle body, ported heads, custom exhaust etc, in a GTM Libra that is mid engined, stiffer and lighter than an Elise, it works quite nicely.
