Question

As the title says ,can a TT be run OK on 95 ron rather than super unleaded as it says in the brochure . Thinking of getting a second hand TT for 'Mrs Sticks', and as she will do about 12-14k a year in it super unleaded could be a bit expensive ?

Thanks

Dave

Yes, it'll be fine as the ECU is adaptive, you will get slightly less power than book spec though as it backs off a bit.

You should get a couple more mpg on super which offsets the price difference. In any case, why spend, what £20k? on a car then worry about 3p worth of petrol.

Second hand right hand drives can be had for 12.5k - 13k now.

Now let's put the risk of voiding any warrenties or risk downtime by damaging your car by not putting an approved / recommended fuel grade in your car.

An average of 30mpg combined is what I am achieving from an aftermarket tuned 1.8T. Presumably you may get more from a standard car. I am assuming it would be a majority of high way which would be closer to 40mpg.

Based on 30mpg and a saving of 3p per litre over 12k miles you would save £54.552.

(12,000 miles / 30 mpg) = 400 gallons UK

400 gallons UK x 4.546litres per gallon = 1818.4 litres fuel

1818.4 litres fuel x £0.03 saving per litre of fuel = £54.552 saving

(Based on the gallon conversion of 4.546 litres per gallon UK - Could vary as I don't know if the car reads in UK gallons or US. US gallons are 3.7854 litres to the gallon.)

If I gave my missues one I wouldn't care about fuel costs. I'd be more worried about parking tickets, speeding fines, bumping people at the lights, bus lane fines and other things they tend to do.

Thanks for the replies ......I see what you are saying about the increasd costs only being about £50 a year , but we are talking about my missis here ! It might be a bit more expensive where we live 'in the sticks ' because the nearest petrol station to us with super is about 8p a litre more if I remember rightly and thats if they've got any at all . But at the end of the day it's only about £150 a year more (about a weeks depreciation on my Scoobie )

I'll take your word for it, not being gay or a hairdresser I wouldn't know.

Petrol seems to work quite well though.

This is really sad. The guy asks a reasonable question and all the small minded bigots crawl out of the woodwork for the same old dribble. Try having your homophobic sad puffa jacket conversations on one of the many already open 'TT's are gay hairdresser cars' threads instead of ruining them all.

No, I'm not gay and I'm not a hairdresser. I do appreciate innovative design and enjoy cars in general. Hence my liking for the TT. I've owned Subarus also. It is possible to appreciate more than one car on completely different levels of merit.

Why is Subaru targeting the gay market if they are so tough and manly?

http://www.warroom.com/gaysubaru.htm

Pull the wool out of your eyes guys and let someone ask a reasonable question for a change without turning it into a my cars ***** is bigger and more straight than yours.

Here's a recent ScoobyNet thread on the subject that's been locked because of many comments to the same effect. Hopefully everything you are thinking or about to write has been covered here so we don't have to hear it all again.

http://www.scoobynet.co.uk/bbs/threa...hreadID=283801

Do you really think in your limited minds that no gay people drive cars similar to yours? Or are you all hiding deep seated homosexual tendencies?

I appreciate a jokes a joke but the 10th time around it loses it's punch.

Just for the record I've got a MY99 Scoobie and Mrs 'Sticks' loves TT's , we've had an Audi A4 Avant for the last 3 years and they are excellent cars , so I guess I can see both sides of the 'argument', but Guys have a sit in a TT and it does make our Scoobies feel like they are made of paper !

Chill out all

I agree that the quality is WAY better in the TT and that it has an upmarket feel. The 1.8T(225bhp) engine is a gem. The thing i don't like about the TT is the non-permanent 4wd(cousin destroyed 3 times the Haldex of his cabriolet) and the interior space. I would love an S3 though

Cool

I don't own a scoob btw. If I was in the market for a used turbo 4wd, i'm afraid that the scoob wouldn't be on my shortlist. If I really wanted a hardcore 4wd, i would go for an ST205 Celica(seen dosenöffner's )
. If I wanted a quality/comfy 4wd, i would opt for the S3.

Funny. You've hit the nail on the head.

I sold the ST205 about 5 months ago. Picked up a Scoob for a bit again and then sold that.

Now I have an A3 1.8T running 200bhp with an S3 being worked on that is projected to run circa 300bhp. The room in the S3 won me over above the TT. But once it arrives I may well flick the A3 1.8T and get a TT. I saw a new 3.2 last night and it looked superb but I believe the old 1.8T 225 versions are quicker in real life as opposed to on paper. We'll see.

The S3 is well worth considering as an alternative though. Not quite the same image and residuals are that little bit stronger than on TT's. A lot more practical also. Atleast the spare fits in the boot (and it's a full sized one). Even the 1.8T's with an AmD remap are great value. Can be had for circa £6k with leather plus a cheap remap.

I understand why you sold it, still remember the thread depth on the rear tyres compared to the front ones

MY mate still has his st185, he said he might sell it and get an MR2 Turbo but i don't see it happening, he secretly LOVES his ST185.

the thing is its not just a gay thing its that the TT owner could have gotten a far better car than the half easter egg like a 2nd hand scobby (or any other jap car)and modded it to a safe realible state and have change for a months holiday.

You start with a
Golf then a
TT or a BMW
Until the stars shine and a porka is in your price range.
my 10p is your the sort that says "thats a nice red car" not "look @ that 6r4 metro"
The tt is slow in the long term and short.

It gets a bit repetitive when it's on every thread though. Do a search on TT's on here and see how many times we've already heard all this.

If you look on the Metro thread you'll see I commented on that too. I can identify most performance cars by exhaust note now before they're even there so I suspect I don't think a car is prettier in red. Having had 36 cars now, including a 911, I'd rather class myself as an enthusiast. But thanks for the insight into your method of cataloguing cars.

Why the hell would anyone in there right mind ask the opinion of Scooby owners on a TT and not expect to get the p1ss taken out of them.

What type of answer would you get if you asked a Liverpool fan their opinion on Everton? A little harsher than the above posts!!!

If I was to enter the TTnet if there is such a site and asked about a Scooby I bet I would get the same treatment.

Sorry but you deserve all you get.

I quite like TT's but wouldnt buy one myself, dont think they are gay, I just think that is man speak for stylish, a TT is just that, style over substance appealing perhaps to those more interested in desginer clothers, loft apartments and male grooming products than active diffs, engine oil and big spoliers.

Reading right between the lines, I suspect its a class thing, Scooby = working class hero (sic) and TT = middle class smoothy. Nothing to do with being gay (or not), would be interesting to see what gay men actually gravitate to car wise, I do think that there will be more gay men driving TT's than Scoobs though, perhaps the difference is just that any gay TT owners are 'Out' wheras gay Scoob drivers are 'In'. Would be interesting to see whats parked in the car park of 'The Salon' on Ch 4 !

Who gives a toss anyway ?
