cosworth replicas.......

right, going to uni next year now so im going to have to get something really cheap and more importantly (on my own policy), cheap to insure.
now, i cant bear the though of driving a standard car. it would kill me. now im not wanting all Max Power but something that turns a few heads, even if its a bit all-show-no-go.
now to me a cossie replica fits the bill perfectly. but, like the rest of you on here i have a problem with driving something thats not the real thing but i have the opportunity to get one *really* cheap. and its *mint* (absolutely flawless, in fact), best replica i have ever seen, down to some very fine details. has new full leather interior, big brakes, tints, obviously the full kit, re-spray, cosworth badges etc. its based on a 1.4 and has really low miles (also with a spotless engine bay).
so.. what i want to know is........... should i buy this car?

get some quotes first! when i learned to drive, only 3 1/2 years ago ;-p any insurace company i phoned would not of entertained a car with any modifications. if the car looks as good as you say, the way the insurance comp will look at it is that it could be seen as a real cosworth by a thief and therefor just as likely to get stolen.
another thing to bear in mind is a 1.4 as your first car. i started with an 1994 1.4 astra gls and the cheapest quote for my first year was £1700 TPFT!!! and i phoned EVERYONE, that was with CIS btw.
whichever way you go good look and i know how you feel, you want your car yesterday!!
cheers

Scooby Regular
As has been said above really...
Watch out for the insurance, it would be steep enough on a standard 1.4 Escort (1st time Insurers are always hammered ) but now that its got all the above mods, it will be ALOT more desireable to scum who want to steal it, or break into it to steal parts off it.
Tesco seem to be fairly cheap for people at the moment, however, not sure how they are for younger, first time insurers........ But if you get an insurance quote you can handle, then go for it, sounds like exactly what you are after mate!!
Cheers,
Grant

How embarassing at the traffic light grand prix though. Particularly when the front wheels spin, and it sounds like a bee in a biscuit tin.
Personally, I'd just get a standard 1.4 Escort if I were you.

Why not get a chaep Escort RST. Fast easy to tune and probably same insurance as a Cossie look alike. And you wont look a tit getting beat off the lights by rep man in his 2.0 vectra.

i went to uni with a pug 405 sri, 17" alloys on and and lowered 30mm looked clean and nice. but that was a temp car. turned 21 and got myself a wrx import. being a student its easy. work during the summer and holidays.. i got 4k over summer work and 1k each holiday. that meant i had my loans and a little more to live off after paying rent. giving me plenty of money of play with my car
Borich
p.s. theres a few cossie, reps at uni find them at the lights and its funy..

Yes, I am at Uni now, in my final year.
Work nights in a supermarket over summer, earn decent money since you don't pay ax and don't spend much because you're asleep when you would normally be spending. Result!

Couldn't you get a Peugeot 205 or something (at least it handles well)? If you could stretch to a Pug 306 Turbo D that was the first of the "GTi" diesels. Not that much power, but looks the part and handles well (and isn't a Ford). Group 5 insurance, IIRC. Or a Saxo VTR -- that's quite a low insurance group I think.

i worked at st.merryn foods ware house dept. loading and unloading lorries, i did 6 days a week and take home 350 a week + bnous so after n.i. about 340 a week. basicly saved up for the scoob and now its all paying off. oh and got a steady g/f at uni so thats an excuse to stay in and not **** all my money against a wall. DAC - if your going uni work your *** off from college to going uni.. its well worth it.. i basicly had it that my work paid rent which gave me 1334 spending money each term. 130 quid a week spending money
