Hi guys,

I am looking for a first car for my son who has just passed his test. It has to be cheaper than 3k, and be relatively cheap to insure. Can anyone help me or give any suggestions? I've heard good things about the pug 205 xs can anyone recommend one of these?

205 xs is top. Also consider 106 1.3 rallye (less than £2K now). Very cool for a young lad !

Insurance on any of the above is not going to be cheap though. Cheap needs to be something grp4 or less, ideally less and even then expect to pay £1300. Look for a Fiesta, Punto, Corsa etc. Models like the Corsa SXI have a 1.2 16v engine, nippy enough for a first time buyer, they look the part and they're only group 2/3 insurance.

yeah but if u have 3k then buy & 205xs & have free insurance for 2 years+ thrown in lol.
