205 TD
#1
I have been offerd a 205 TD with the 405 1.9TD engine in it.
A few questions lads:
Whats this conversion like?
Are they quite quick?
Good on fuel as its a car for work?
Any other thoughts will be apprecieted

The 1.8 diesel turbo (80 ish bhp) was fairly nippy in a 205, the 1.9 should make it quite quick (92 bhp), never heard of it done before, just make sure its not some ropey bodge that involves bashing/cutting the chassis around, also it may be heavy and **** the handling and make it unpredicatable if the 1.9 unit is significantly heavier or if its at a different angle.
Would be interested to hear what its like.

If you want a detailed reply, try asking this question on the andyspares forum. They are a french makes forum, someone there should be able to help.

Dome,
They were a 1.8td in the 205 as standard mate as opposed to the 1.9 in the 306 & 405 BUT I believe that it's basically the same engine in both, just been bored/stroked for the 306 & 405.

Went to see this car.
I was in good nick apart from the odd scratch.
One thing bugged me though, the rev guage did not work, I asked him why, and he replied its because it has a different fly wheel??
Anyone know how to fix this?
So we agreed on a price and he is going to get it MOTed.
Looking forward to getting it.

I have done this and the torque is a bit much for the car to handle although mines was tuned a tad
the engine is really just the same so no weight difference sits in same mounts etc
1.9 has an intercooler on top 205td has no intercooler
As anyone with a scoob knows you need lots of nice cold air into the cooler to get the best from it
i had a scoob scoop on top of my bonnet it worked great!!
people laughed at the scoop but i usually wiped the grin off pretty quick
done 40mpg driven hard not a lot off grip in the wet though
the rev counter works of a sensor on the back of the engine it sees a slot in the flywheel all the flywheels should have the slot so the sensor is missing or fooked
fooked is likely as they never work that well
