Question

Just come to the end of 5 years of scooby ownership and on reflection I realise that I've come to treasure the rock-solid dependability as much as the performance...

Now looking for a new toy and Evo VI is high on the list. Performance goes without saying. Just wondered what the reliability of these is compared to the old scoob? Particularly as if anything goes bang on one of these it could get expensive or time-consuming...

I understand the engines are a bit stronger.

Gareth,

I changed from a 1997 UK Turbo to an Evo 6 GSR in July.

Only major problem I have had is with the clutch - very weak on these cars.

Also check out the AYC (Anti Yaw Control) differential does not "whine".

I would recommed you pay a bit extra and get a warranty from a dealer.

PS Clutches (amazingly) are not covered !

PPS You will not regret it matey

Clutches are weak if you do standing starts, my standard clutch last 32K and i only changed it as i wanted to do abit of dragging

Front brakes are prone to warping, fitting brake ducts helps no end, but you carnt beat fitting something decent like AP's.

Other than that they are reliable enough, rear diff carnt handle more than 450bhp on the GSR so bear that in mind!

Good Luck!

After several scoobies went to an Evo VI then came back to another Scooby again (STi8 PPP). Loved the Evo to bits but it needs more looking after and much more prone to failure than any Scooby!

As said earlier in the post, get the peace of mind and get a warrenty from Mitsi and make you find one with rock solid history.

Just for the experience I'd say you have to own one at some point!

Take a look on the MLR web site where they have a thorough list of all the potential failures of this beast!

I've never seen a clutch covered under a warranty in the UK - they are always excluded under "friction materials" etc
