Saab 9-5 or Volvo S60?
#1
I'm after a big, quick (ish), comfy, safe (kid on way) motorway cruiser to supplement my mileage on the scooby. Can go to about £13-14k. It doesn't have to handle (saw Top Gear last night ) just allow the 50 mile commute to pass unstressed... Was looking at a Grand Cherokee but you guys put me off
Saw that both the Saab 9-5 and Volvo S60 were around this price nearly new (year and half ish) and they both seem to offer what i'm after.. They are much nicer than the same priced Mondeo/Vectra rep mobile....
I KNOW THEY ARE OLD MANS CARS so please don't let me know - i know and i'll buy some slippers to go with the pipe
Anyone have experience of either car - please let me know you opinions (of the cars not that i'm sad) on motoring experience/reliablilty/servicing costs etc please!
Cheers,
Jza

Only know about the S60 D5 -- would be a great m/way cruiser. 5-pot diesel is hugely grunty and sounds good too, surprisingly. Volvo cabin is pretty good, seats are excellent. Had a 2-hour test drive in one, enjoyed it a lot.
The 9-5 would be better for load-lugging and will be roomier, the S60 is "Mondeo" size but the 9-5 is "Granada" size.

You will get a very good 9-5 with a very high spec for that money. I bought a 9-3 as a run-around and its fine apart from handling. The 9-5 is much better. You need to decide which engine/insurance/fuel economy option to take.
I think the saabs have a slightly less fuddy-duddy image than the volvos.. and next year they will be sharing parts with impreza's anyway..
