Cool

I sold my old WRX after 4 years back in June, bought a Mondeo ST200 (don't ask, it was cheap, ok? In fact, I just sold it for £500 profit... ) to run around in while I saved up for my next 'proper' car. Despite what some people (mainly subaru drivers) had said about them, ie too thirsty, too 'hard' and uncompromising etc. I took a test drive in an Evo 7 GSR, and it was FANTASTIC!! Far less 'understeery' than the scoob, and whereas my old WRX started to run out of puff if you went much over the ton, this just keeps pulling. In fact, the (lunatic) salesman got up to 150mph, before I told him that was 'enough'!
Anyway, I picked it up on saturday, and everytime I drive it I'm grinning like a grinning thing!
It's not really any thirstier than my scoob, and the build quality is leagues ahead. The only downside is the thimble sized fuel tank.
Cracking motor!

Yeah, I sold my WRX recently, bought an Evo 6 GSR, have a ralliart ECU, Full HKS Exhaust, Ralliart suspension and HKS blower....
Im still smiling every second of driving it........a month on.
Its like being in a world rally car.......a different league of quickness from my old scoob. Your just pinned to the seat, whiplash at gear change.......

Love it.

I was about ten seconds away from getting a Tommi Mak 6 - then i rang for insurance on the thing - why oh why is there this stupid rule about been 25yers old or over to drive them? I got cover for the Imp Turbo I ended up with, so why no Evo? I do love my Imp mind - not bad for a first car! (An Intergrale is still the best in my veiw - none of this trick All Wheel Drive nonsence and very rare)

They are just so quick, Every morning I look forward to driving to work......even makes being up at 6.30am......FUN.

Handling is ridiculously good too.........I find it very hard not to justify spending every penny I have on new bits for it...

Yep, I agree.

I 'upgraded' from my MY00 to an EVO 6 (in rare rhiems blue) two years ago. The difference was hugh..and so were the costs.
I reckon it cost me about £900 a month(good fun though).
Just purchased an MG ZS TD - family car with family costs.

"suppose its all relative and peoples perception of quick"

You're right there. My evo is 'quick', but a mate of mine has a tuscan speed 6, and that's QUICK! - When it's not broken, that is... 2 engine rebuids so far, just failed first MOT on wheel bearings! Ah, the legendary TVR build quality!

I wasn't knocked out when I test drove the 7. Required more commitment and effort to keep at high revs; which doesn't suit lazy people like me; which is where (a remapped) Impreza midrange comes in.

Have no qualms about the handling or performance when you really put your foot down; though bit too jittery round crap bumpy corners for my underwear.

Guess I've summed up why Imprezas are more mainstream than Evos

And it took me ages to find something nice to say as well LOL.

The funny thing is most people believe that UK impreza has 280 when you just change the exhaust and then when they drive a proper 280 car they are stunned by the performance.

I guess coming from a 208/215bhp car into a short gear 280bhp like an Evo or STi JDMs you will be shocked like I was.

You do realize that with your 275bhp MY99 it has a better power to weight than an FQ EVO8

Chrisp,

BHP/Weight

I agree . Looking at new cars out of the box the STI8 PPP is ugly, a tad overweight @ 1470KGS and handling is not as good as E8 FQ. Spec 'C' is a brilliant car (sod the looks) but not quite brave enough to go for a low volume import. In the end I suppose I just fancied a change.

Strangly I actually like the muted (de cat/de bunged) sound of the EVO after the SS'd Scooby.

A lot of people say the evo sounds pooh when compared to the scoob, and i must admit i love the sound of the scoobs I hear burbling about...but in defence of the sound my evo makes it is so loud and sporty that pedestrians dive for cover when I drive by....it is far from gay. The FQ300 5" tail pipe is probably helping a bit!

I have had old ladies drop their shopping bags and one little kid dive over a bush off the pavement when i drove by...passenger in the car at the time nearly pi**ed himself when the kid jumped the bush

I also drove up my friend's road the other day and he described the sound my car made as "Obnoxious"...result.

all very amusing

You mean they dont have 280?? :eek

Most the local young scooby lot round these parts have 400Bhp, it's true! They were telling me in the pub last week.
Seriously, does amaze me how much ****e gets talked when it comes to BHP figures. (not just on scoobs)

Hi all

I went from MY00 PPP to E8-FQ300........what a car this thing is....more fuel-efficient than Scoob too!
Handling etc is in a different league and the exhaust sounds magic blasting through the gears. Still love Scoobs.....Evos really are better though!

Anyone who wants a blast in my car.......let me know!
Cheers

LOL yep had this as well and if any one thinks theres a big performance difference between the top JDMs then .

0-100 in 12 seconds was plenty fast for me straight out the box .
