Question

Thinking about buying my next car from an auction .. nothing too old or extreme .. golf TDi sort of thing. Anyone know how to find out online what prices are being paid, this would allow me to judge if the risk is worthwhile.

Going to the auction gives you a sample of one I was looking for a larger survey.

i bought my golf at auction - still had a years warranty on it and it hasn't been anywhere near a garage other than when it has needed servicing or having bigger turbos, brakes FMIC etc etc :-)LOL....i paid half the cost price new.....

I haven't had any of the problems that some new car buyers have reported - Coil packs, dropping windows etc and its been running at least 195 bhp and 200 lbs torque since a week after i bought it and that was over 2 years ago... in 2 weeks it finally goes into JABBA to be finished of with 360 bhp - and then i'll see what happens :-)

The private used car market is on its **** at the moment - you'd probably pay about the same privately and you get the benefit of a test drive etc

Becuase when you buy at auction in the warranted catergory you pay an indemnity premium against - clocking, ringing, cloning and all the other potential pit falls when buying private - have you seen the number of confiscated cars the police have
