I have been thinking about a second car, namely a passat tdi, as i have to do a regular 450 mile trip. The passat popped into my mind purely as i remember getting into a taxi once and had a long conversation with the driver whos passat had logged up an impressive 250,000 problem free miles.
Has anyone got a passat tdi and could perhaps tell me what they think of the car reliability/cost and servicing wise? As its for motorway only Id be happy with something cheap, reliable and will have some sort of poke.
I have seen some for sale around the £2000 mark upwards, id imagine things would be cheaper at auction.

I remember an article in 911 and Porsche World that was about a 944 turbo that had just done 400,000 miles!!!
It had had so many tyres that they were having trouble retaining air on the saggy wheel rims.
Porsche were so impressed with the way the car had stayed together they gave the owner a free set of replacement wheels!!!
It was still on its original engine, gearbox, turbo and EXHAUST!!!!!

I had one as a company car for about 3.5 months was great was nearly five years old when I got it. (purely to drive well over a thousand miles a week) Had done well over 180k
when I got rid, no problems comfy, enough kick to over take and a sound system to keep you awake whilst you drive far too many miles!
Can't say a bad word! But god am glad I don't drive like that anymore!

I've got a nice Saab 900SE Turbo for sale at £2450 / near offers - its got 139k miles on it FSH, just had new brake discs/pads/belts/head gasket/alternator and easily does 35-37mpg on the motorway at 80mph.
