96 TD escort, what is the service intervals and when does a cambelt need changing.

I am sure the older diesels had cam and pump belts at 36,000 and then I think service intervals changed from 6,000 to 10,000 so the cam and pump belt went up to 40,000.

Don't chance it though and don't quote me on it neither. If it were mine I'd have the belts done at 36,0000 and make sure you get a full cam kit with tensioners and idler pulleys.

When these balts snap, you'll bend nearly all your valves, crack some valve guides and even break your camshaft and bearing caps.

cheers, as it happens it was done on last service in june, just bought it, must be going through some sort of mad change, gone from the scoob to a VR4 and now a diesel escort, all be it for a short time, if work knocks back my redundancy application i'm going for a 94 Lancia Delta EVO 2

We used to look after a fleet of Escort vans with the same engine, we had one let a belt go at 35,500!! We did them at 30K after that

It's worth getting it done early, as mentioned they make a terrible mess when they go...Ford had no replacement heads in the country at one point, they were going that often!

Oh, if it ever stops working, it'll be the filter head, they go all the time....other than that, keep changing the oil and you'll have no bother
