Cambelt service on Escort diesel, anyone know
#2
I am sure the older diesels had cam and pump belts at 36,000 and then I think service intervals changed from 6,000 to 10,000 so the cam and pump belt went up to 40,000.
Don't chance it though and don't quote me on it neither. If it were mine I'd have the belts done at 36,0000 and make sure you get a full cam kit with tensioners and idler pulleys.
When these balts snap, you'll bend nearly all your valves, crack some valve guides and even break your camshaft and bearing caps.

We used to look after a fleet of Escort vans with the same engine, we had one let a belt go at 35,500!! We did them at 30K after that
It's worth getting it done early, as mentioned they make a terrible mess when they go...Ford had no replacement heads in the country at one point, they were going that often!
Oh, if it ever stops working, it'll be the filter head, they go all the time....other than that, keep changing the oil and you'll have no bother
