I am looking to get a new family car around the 4k mark.Must be able to fit me,the misses and 3 screaming kids in so i think an Estate would be best.I dont want just a LX vertion of them,i want the highest spec i can get,ie,Air Con,Alloys etc
At the moment i am thinking

1,Ford Mondeo Estate
2,Peugoet 406 Estate

Any other ideas???????????????

Tiff, you could try and buy a ex-leased one, company one for 4k. There are loads of cars in this catagory, especially estate cars.
Try going to an auction for leased and fleet cars, you will be shocked at some of the prices.

Saab 9000?

For that money you could get a late CSE 2.3T or an Aero. Very quick, biggest hatch in the business (actually bigger than some estates), new shocks and springs and it handles quite nicely too, and all the toys (climate, leather, cruise).

Plus you're driving something a bit different

I would say the Subaru legacy, Twin turbo's and 280BHP. thats enought for a family car i think! or a subaru impreza 5 door. Saw a WRX or was it an STi on auto trader website for £2795.

Although he goes on about it having 180,000miles on it and being the most reliable car he has owned, my dad's MY96 Omega CDX 2.5 V6 Estate is massive, the engine is reliable, torquey and will go on forever as long as its been serviced regularly and properly... Its got Air Con, CD Changer, Full Electrics (incl. seats), heated seats, etc. Oh and its RWD which is a bonus!!

Another one to consider is the 2.5 TD Omega because you get all the space and toys but you get a 2.5 6cyl BMW engine which is miles better than the 2.2DTi Vauxhall engines that they are using now!! IMO!!

Cheers,
Grant

Should be able to get a good spec Octavia estate, 1999 or 2000 with plenty of creature comforts for under 5K. If you want lots of toys in another marque, you're probably looking at at least 5 years old.
