I know about the V-RS but have never heard of the Rally derivative. What are the differences between the two and what is the full spec of the Rally as Google has come up with nothing so far.
Thanks in advance

I've been looking at VRs recently- as far as I can see the Rally is identical but features a tasteless paint job and alloys. I'm sure someone who knows better will tell us if there are any other differences.

there's a nice Octavia with some go faster bits on it for rent here:
http://www.rallyplanet.com/index.php?pid=9657
It's Euro 150/mile, so if you want it for a 100 mile event it's going to cost you about 10,000 pounds to rent for the day.

Does anyone prefer the rally? TBH I prefer the street sleeper looks of the standard VRs.
If the car is more capable then I guess one with the decals deleted would make a fine, fast motor just like the other VRs.
After taking a good look at one and a short test drive this morning we are 99% certain that our Euros are going to the nice men at our local skoda dealer. VRs in black here we come.

As a side note for the same money we could have had a N/A Petrol Audi A3 which was 2 yrs older and had a lower spec. Why does anyone buy any other golf based product other than the Octavia? It is amamzing value for money.
BTW the dealer told us that the euro spec LHD car we are hoping to get features ESP, side airbags, headlamp washers etc as part of the winter pack.

Thanks for the advice- I've had a good look at briskoda- nice site BTW. When I get one I'll be signing up.
The first thing I want to do when we get it is have it chipped. I think the car we were quoted on gets climate as part of the winter pack- not sure about the 17's- it snows a lot here and I think 16's will be better on the compacted stuff.

Down in the Pyrenees, SW France, I have the choice of a few dealers but the nice people at Peyo Skoda are the nearest to me.
The dealers are a bit thin on the ground here, similar to Subaru concessionnaires.
Any feedback on them would be appreciated if you have any.

Hmm, three options...
1) post on briskoda, ask who's about...
2) travel north to get mods done, certainly plenty in Holland or UK.
3) If its just a remap, I know of a few that do a postal service, you can remove and post your entire ECU, they'll rechip it and return it.

(incidentally, if you get quite a bit of snow there, I would strongly suggest you try the 4x4 - we don't get much snow here but it's coped very well with both snow and flooding when we have had it - the ESP especially so)

Tx for that- My plan is to combine a ring trip with the remap depending on when we get the car. So it will be the netherlands/belgium or germany for the work.
The 4X4 interests me, particularly the estate, I just can't get my head round the reduced power though. It's not available as 180bhp here.

So there is no difference apart from the ECU? Interesting, I didn't know that. The 4X4 is an option I must look into then- they seem a bit cheaper than the VRS. What about the suspension setup etc?
I'll come and have a good look on briskoda tonight, hopefully find some more info there.
Thanks again.

Suspension on the RS is a lower firmer setup, but with torsion beam at rea.
Suspension on the 4x4 is a higher affair, still stiffly sprung, but with a seperate rear subframe, holding the rear diff and twin trailing wishbones, making for an independant setup. (identical to S3, R32, TT etc)
Both can be lowered \ stiffened, but (I feel) the independent setup gives more control.
Put it this way, the Seat Cupra Championship is FWD, but they use 4wd shells with that independent rear suspension, just with FWD running gear, instead of the torsion beam you find in most hot hatches.

Sounds to me like the 4X4 is the way to go- do the transmission losses rob as much power as an Imprezas? Is it the haldex system used on other VAG cars?
I've noticed that the 4X4 I've seen seem to have more tasteful looks than the VRS too.
