Dump valve on a turbo diesel?
#3
Yup, Van Aaken can do it, but it involves a lot of electronic trickery to make it work as theres no vacumn on a TD to open it like a normal DV. About 300quid or summat i think.
To make it sound less like a Oil Burner--
An exhaust and induction kits a good start as diesel noises dont come from the zorst, but from the engine itself, so a deep sounding exhaust and some induction/turbo noise will mask it a bit.
What helps a LOT but you wont do until the engine is heavily modded for big boost, is to lower the compression ratio (Alpina/Schnitzer modded BMW Turbo Diesels all have lower compression and sound a LOT nicer than as std due to lower comp) as thats what causes a lot of that noise. No mattter what the fuel its similar- Listen to a MEGA high compression 70s/80s rallycar like a Manta or Mk2 Escort and they got the same nasty sounds at idle.
The diesel could also be hidden by added sound proofing under the bonnet, go buy some Dynamat from a Car Stereo place and put it on the underside of the bonnet, and just everywhere!
