duggy & madge
read the thread again and see who has edited a couple of their posts DDDDUUUUHHHHHHH
Original post said 150mph (thats why everyone is quoting that figure) then someone realised how silly they had been and decided to change it all so quietly

Mods, can this be left here, as it's more general interest than "Other Marques"!!
I happened to be passing by my local sprint on Saturday and stopped for a look, I'm glad I did, cos I saw THE MOST AWESOME car I've ever laid eyes on!!!!!!
Based on a Ford Puma, although barely recognisable, 4wd, an RS200 engine developing 700+ bhp...
I watched it do the 1/4 mile (curved, not a straight track) in 10.64 seconds!!!
Apparently this was a lot slower than they were aiming for - the car was having problems with it's clutch and launch control systems...
It's apparently capable of 0-115mph in 5.5secs....!!!!!!!
Unbelievable!!!
More details Here

Hang on, I said 115Mph, not 150... You must have mis-heard me!!
The guy who's brainchild this car is, Mike Endean, is the former chairman of Xtrac Ltd...

Sorry but rally cross cars are 4wd 700+bhp and they do 0-100 in around 5 seconds so i doubt a similar spec car could get an extra 50mph in half a second!
To get to 150mph in that time would need well over 1000bhp??

Did you read the link?
It mentions there that the engine is CAPABLE of an estimated 1000bhp...

So what are we saying here 0-60 in 2 seconds cos there's no way it will go any faster than that, so 0-100 in 3.5 seconds and on to 150 a futher 2 seconds later
A F1 car with 900bhp weighing 400kg can only get to 150mph in about 6.5 seconds
Until i see a datalog i will remain sceptical thanks

Yeah but what is the bhp at the wheels bearing in mind transmission loss - in true SN style!!
I hope they've got a knocklink on that too!
The turbo timer must be going for hours after a run!!!!

am with scott here.
rigoli impreza did 1/4 in 10 secs almost on the nose and crossed the line at 144mph.
this car does a quarter in over 10 secs, so I am assuming that it topped out at 130ish after 5 secs and then cruised over the finish line at its max speed?
does no one think its odd that it does 150 in 10 secs or so, but can get to 150 in half that?

I think you will find that the latest Ferrari has about 880 bhp. Who gives a **** about 4wd! I was using the F1 car as an example, because apart from a dragster, i can't really name another car that will out accelerate an F1 car. Ok a F1 car may struggle with traction up to 60mph but as they get past that barrier in about 3 seconds i really can't see a 4wd drive car shave much time off of that
Please use your knowledge of physics and step back and realise that 0-150 in 5.5 seconds is not possible in that puma.
remember the saying "don't believe everything you read in the papers"
Scott
btw, the TOTB2 skyline did something like a 10.4 1/4 at 154mph, give or take a tenth or mph

As mentioned above, the time given of 10.64 was way off what the car is capable of - given the fact that they were having clutch and launch control problems, and that the engine is churning out only (!) 700ish bhp, rather than the 1000bhp it's capable of, it's still fairly rapid.
As sillysi mentioned - 4wd is banned in Formula 1, and those cars are designed to be fastest around a track, taking only 2 or three pit stops in a 70+ lap race.
This car however is designed to go as fast as it can for 1/4 mile - do you reckon the tyres are a bit stickier perhaps, and the gearing!?
Ok, i haven't got hard evidence, but I think it's entirely possible...

Whats being 4wd got to do with it??? Are top fuel dragsters 4wd?? NO!
0-150mph in 5.5secs!!! in my opinion... NO WAY!!!!
By the way in your other post about this car, it seems as though someone told you it was 'made entirely from carbon fibre and weighs next to nothing' Errr... its a standard Puma shell and the closures are made of Carbon, will be light but no where NEAR the weight of a F1 car which would obliterate it to 150mph.
Its an awesome car and I would love to see it go, but whoever starting quoting those silly performance figures needs to look at the laws of Physics in my opinion.

There's a great forum discussing 0-60 , 0-100 & 0-150 times of F1 cars , Don't know how to do the clicky thing but the site is technicalf1.com
There's a thread going on there about acceleration times with some wicked equations (if you like that sort of thing) they quote that a 1987 Williams Renault running 1010bhp @ 4 bar boost can do the 0-150 in around 7.5 seconds & I'm dam sure the driver would not expect to look sideways & see the Puma driver waving back at him! Amazing if it does though.
