Nice looking car and interesting (to me but then I don't know much about the golf scene these days)choice of powerplant.
I wonder if you might know the answer to a question that interests me, has anyone done a Mk1 or 2 engine conversion using the TDi 150 powerplant? If they did what where the results like?

The Engine conversion was done back in 98, an Audi S3 engine would be a much cheaper and better alternative if it was to be done today.
The amount of work that has been done to get this engine, and power steering, to fit is unbelievable.

NACRO, I have pondered the PD 150 into MK1 transplant before now, could be a really nice combo, low weight of the MK1, about a ton even allowing for the heavier engine (is a PD lump that much heavier considering its a very similar block and only 8 valve), chip the PD unit to 190 bhp with 250 Llbs ft of torque and I would imagine it would really move cos I have drive the 115 PD in a MK4 and it was great, even the 100 Auto that my mother in law has moves really well considering it sounds like a recipe for disaster (Diesel + Auto) moves really nicely. We have a Sharan 115 PD and even that is moved fairly smartly by that unit so with half the weight it would be awesome.
Would it **** the handling ?
Probably no more than the VR6 unit, thats not a dig at the subject of the thread because that car is perfect, just the right side of subtle, nice colour, hint of classic, wouldnt change a thing,
Is it for sale ?

Its always nice to see a car which was one of the first mk1 with a vr6 and still on the road and believe me thats a miracle with a bloody heavy vr lump up front
