As redundancy is looming I am changing my aim of a Scoob to something else with 4 doors....
Just wondering if anyone has any experience of either of the above?
The A4 is less in your face, but for the money it's going to be an older car than the Vectra.
Looking to spend around £8/£9k at the very most. Was going to spend a similar amount on a Scoob, but the running costs of these will be a lot lower...
Cheers
Mike

Get an A4 Turbo, re-map it and you will be happy... Build is alot better than a Mondeo/Accord/Vectra and the other repmobiles.
IMO it should be between an A4, ST200 and if you like to thrash your car then an Accord Type-R could be fun...
Cheers,
Grant

How about a BMW 328i? Quick with good rear drive traction and great handling. Nice interior and build quality as well.
I'm in a similar dilema to your good self and this is currently top of the pile along with the Accord Type R...

Yeah, I looked at a new shape 328i SE (2000 V) but it went for £11250 (I was gutted as it was full spec incl leather etc)
The older ones look dated, IMHO esp the coupe. Some of the saloons are nice though.... a lot of 80k+ milers though, which I guess is nothing on a BM....

LOL this isn't going to down well, but I'd go for the Vectra out of the two you've asked about.
Why?
Its faster and has more character. Great engine note as well.
Would put money on the fact that the Vectra will be faster point to point as well. Good grip.
Also cheaper to run/insure/service.
Downside? Its a Vauxhall. But that makes it way cheaper to buy.
Should get a mint Gsi for "average" A4 money.
A4 has fab build, strong residuals, dull handling, mismached springs/dampers, not that quick, terrible gearchange action, dull engine note.
To be honest though, I'd look elsewhere.
Honda Accord Type R gets my vote.
Oh, and 80k miles on a BMW is a lot....

I have an A4 1.T (not a sport)
It's a 99/T plate and has 70k on it. Selling for £6495ono. So with the change you could sort out the handling for £500 chip it for another £500 and nice set of wheels £500. So for 8k you'd have a sorted 200bhp A4.

The Vectra WILL break down and be unreliable, but will possibly have the most character (pity they skimped on the rear leccy windows). If you like the Audi then don't think about a trip to the ring in it - it'll be very scary, believe me.
If it was my money then the Vectra would be the one but treat it gently and it may not leave you stranded too often.
