Scooby to Skyline
#2
Always had a hankering for a Skyline - one of the cars you have to own before you die (or buy a Merc). A decent, unmodified UK R33 will surely be getting harder to find. Question is will the Skyline provide anything I don't get from the P1? Appreciate it's no doubt easier to tune but with the extra weight would I be disapppointed? Anyone been there/done it?

i'm looking at doing similar although getting tempted by other goodies as i may have "issues" eetting the liner in current garage. The R33 is a big beast but in reality only wieghts about the same as a bug eye with bits & 500bhp is a relative piece of p!ss
check outt http://www.gtr.co.uk/forum/upload/index.php?s= for more details, as with the RX7 thread not a million miles away i have detailed files on my computer at home so can post numerous other links if you so desire later on today.............?
Si
PS hmm GTR is the daddy i have been out in a few & if nowt else it's just lush watching the dial when the rioght foot is planted round a bend & you see how much power goes to front wheels oh toys luv 'em

Well, I sold my scoob and bought an R33 GT-R and I'm not looking back.
Don't only consider unmodified. Although it's easy to tune skylines, you'll spend a wad of cash doing it.
Taking a Standard R33 GTR, you'd probably end up doing the following to it:-
- HKS or APEX'i induction kit - (£250)
- Exhaust - (£650)
- Decat (£50)
- Front pipes (£250)
- Boost Controller, 1.0 bar boost (£400)
That lot totals £1600 and will see you with abour 400hp. Why not buy a car with it already on?
Look at the gtr.co.uk forums. There are some good cars for sale at the moment.

I had this choice. Drove a 33 GTR and it really didn't feel special to me at all. It didn't seem any faster or corner better than my Impreza, it was just bigger and a Skyline. I have to say the driving experience left me really underwhelmed.
So I got a twin turbo Supra

I've got the same hankerings myself, especially after seeing R34 GT-Rs are becoming affordable..
25k for this Bayside Blue beaut from NewEra.

Wish I could afford it right now, shame I've got a while until the scoob is paid for....

If you can afford it don't buy a standard one...
There are a few 500+bhp R33's for sale in the low 20s price range, buy one of those.
On the skyline register at the moment -
Scott Davies is selling a 500bhp 1998 car with low miles for £24k
Jez (http://www.ejperformance.com) is selling a 1995 car with 570-600bhp for £22.5k
PMJ is selling a 558bhp 1997 car for £23k
All the cars have £15k + worth of goodies fitted so well worth the price!

I think they eventually brought in about 50 R33s as official UK cars. Someone will correct me but I seem to remember them being sold via Middlehursts and being uprated with things like bigger oil coolers and fuel pumps. There are plenty of imports I guess if you are happy to take that route!

100 official UK cars imported in 1997-98 have oil coolers (though not thermostatic so oil takes twice as long to heat up on these ) different front bumper/indicators and reflectors in the back bumper...
They came with a 3 year warranty, and middlehurst offered a range of power upgrades (at a price). The oil coolers are worth having (though I'd go for thermostatic one), the other bits I'm less sure about...
