No ABS light on firing it up or at any time.
ABS works fine for the first five minutes or so after starting the engine.
After that until the engine is restarted basically the ABS does not work and the wheels lock up. Turning the engine off then on and it works again.
Wonder if someone has disconnected an ABS light?
Any info on reading ABS fault codes?
Any known problems on this model?
Any sources of info?

Hi,
Some of the peugeot ABS control units have a "switch function" where if you disconnect the control unit with the ignition "off" then turn on the ignition - the ABS lamp should come on - if not check fuses. Unfortunately ABS can only be code read with a suitable code reader. There is a couple of tests you can do to test the lamp circuit but I would need to know which model of 406 you have !.

Thanks. It is a 1997 V6 saloon. Falkland Performance have a Bosch fault code reader which will read my ABS ECU. Any other info appreciated. The fuses are all OK.
I'll try the switch function. I think someone has disconnected the light or the light failed.

Hi
Ignition off - disconnect ecu multi-plug, bridge terminals 19 & 21
- switch ignition on and lamp should come on - if not then either the bulb is gone, it's been disconnected or there is a fault in the wiring.
Terminals - looking at the pins they run from right to left 1 to 15 along the top, 16 to 19 middle row, a small gap then 20 to 26 again in the middle row, the bottom row - 27 to 31 - all running from right to left.
Hope this helps
If you would like the tests & resistances to check the wheel speed sensors from the ecu multi plug - let me know.
Regards

Error was 6910 ring gear wrong number of teeth, but the Bosch list of codes could not determine which wheel this was. I was advised that two different brands of tyre on the same axle could cause the problem - they were worn so I changed them, but no improvement.
A Citroen diagnostics machine plugged in gave 0910 as the error which is incoherent sensor signals.
Next step is to get 4 channel scope on it whilst driving. It seems that it is speed related, as soon as you go over say 60 mph once the ABS doesn't work again until the engine is restarted.
Tyre size is 205/55R16, OEM size is 205/60R15, but this is a Peugeot accessory wheel and the rolling circumference should be the same.

Nearside front has 48 teeth and the sensor over reads by about 70%. It should have 29 like the offside front. I think someone changed a CV joint/driveshaft assembly on the cheap. New one ordered.
