There's a big difference between the MG version and the normal Rover one, in terms of looks, handling and noise.
I don't particularly like the normal Rover 75 (apart from the tourer which is nice), as it seems to be an "old man's car". Plus some of the colours are erm, ceramic. Might look nice on a tea pot, not on a car!
But the MG ZT is really attractive. Less chrome, vibrant colours, huge alloys... and the V6 sounds wicked. Just could do with a bit more poke.

ooh you snob Alex !!
Apparently BMW had a lot of input into the design and build of the 75... can't be that bad ?!
Was in a Rover showroom the other week and sat in the top-spec 75 Connoisseur SE jobby... was very, very nice... if that's your thing.. have to agree with DP though.. I think the ZT looks ace... meaty and fun... just needs a supercharger or something daft to give it 250bhp....
Interior can't be any worse than the Scoob can it, mate ??

Jerry* - oh yes the interior.. its special alright, plastic wood trim, cream instrument dials, weird space age roof light which looks sooo out of place..
The air con makes a horrendous noise when on (heard by people outside the car) - the kids in my road were killing themselves with laughter when I drove past. The transmission wine comes a close second to this...

All the ones I've driven (from base 1.8 to specced 2.5 V6) were really nice to drive, lovely ride and adequate performance from the 2.5. Interior may not be to everybody's taste, but they're so easy to drive, which is what they're all about!
The ZT 190 was a totally different drive, it went well, fantastic looks, handling was great (had 18s, much stiffer/firmer ride than 75) and seats were supportive. Two totally different cars in terms of driving them!

Alex,
Probably is a 1.8 k-series turbo. They don't make the 2ltr Turbo (it stopped production in '96).
It's a courtesy car, so are you at all surprised that it's been ragged silly and sounds knackered already?
Simon.

Yeah, think its the CVT auto (it is an auto).. so that explains that...
Tyres squeal too.. hold on, that might be my driving causing that
Ps. its has 16valve something or other written on the engine...

Our Rover 216 CVT auto starting rattling at about 5K miles and only got worse, till it broke at 50K - by then it was rattling, whineing and it screamed at you when you floored it
It was nicknamed the Rover petrol diesel. (on account of it sounding exactly like a diesel but ran on petrol )
Curiously, my Uncle's Rover 820 was also nicknamed "Rover Petrol Diesel" too. As he put in a 40/60 mix of petrol/diesel (long story )and it ran almost perfectly.
