I'm contemplating taking out breakdown cover for my car as I'll be doing a few miles in it over the next year or two. Has anyone any comments on the best/worst companies out there?

I was with the RAC for 2 years and had no problems with them at all. Called them out twice in 2 years and they turned up within the hour both times.
However, when it came to renewal they wanted to charge more than if I was a new customer, so I asked them about customer loyalty and that didn't seem to mean anything to them, so I told them to stick it.
One thing to remember is to make sure you take out the right type of cover from the start, because if you want to upgrade part way through, they will bum you into next week and charge twice the normal price. I have now gone with Norwich Union who are £55 cheaper and ironically use RAC breakdown people as part of their cover.!

I have always found the AA slightly better... reason : they acknowledge that its your pride and joy! So respect the car and treat it with great care.
Cant say the same for RAC.
My personal experience only.
