I`m looking at getting one to replace my S3, the trouble is there are no 225bhp cars to try yet. I`ve tried a 210 one and was very impressed.
Suddenly, an S3 looks very expensive (even taking into account the depreciation of the Seat) when Audi charge an extra 7 grand for....
Leather Recaros
Zenon lights
Inferior brakes
Two less doors
Smaller wheels
No 6 disc changer
Two extra driven wheels
Etc.
Of course, the PX price will determine if I go ahead with it or not. Awesome car for the money though!

At £17k I'd save a few months longer and haggle a WRX at £19k, then get the PPP later. A/C, 17"s,246bhp and 4wd sounds sweet. Leather can be had but why?

Pal of mine has got one as a company car
It goes well + has an excellent close ratio gearbox (well compaired to the others in the AUDI/VW family with the same engine).
He's done a set of tyres in 6k miles though ...........mind you it does get raped!!
225 BHP model should give it Scoob like performance, if you can get the traction

I've run a Revo tuned (equivalent of PPP for Scoob) Leon Cupra R for a year now and cant fault it. The Chip gives approx 270hp & 280lb/ft (rolling road proven) which as you can imagine makes for an amusing drive. Not had any issues other than a problem with the gearbox when the car was brand new and which was replaced without question by the dealer. Would have to think very hard as to what I'd replace it with without spending a fortune.... best car I've ever owned!

The WRX isn't that much more as standard, but add on PPP and big brakes and its significantly dearer (and then add the de rigeur big wing )
Thats the trouble, the Leon just needs a brain change for around £500 and its sorted. Rest of the car is up to the job, although wet weather isn't going to be its forte.
S3s should start coming down in price soon with the new A3 out.
2001 models upwards are still more than a brand new Leon R.
And you can pick up a nearly new 2003 Leon Cupra (with leather if you're lucky) for around the same price as a '99 S3 with 60+k miles on the clock. Bung a chip on one of them and you get 215-220bhp.

Hopefully, S3 values will not drop too much for a while, I think the lack of a new shape S3 will keep them strong for a while at least. Even the 3.2 quattro is not a real replacement for the S3.
I`m still quite keen on a Cupra R.

Theres rumblings of a new model in late 2004. Not seen anything positive or any spy shots yet though so might even end up early 2005. Theres not even been a facelift on the current model yet so they might even go that way, but a new model based on the Golf mk5 floorpan is most likely.

So what about the new shape mirrors, steering wheel etc... and more colour choice ?
