Agreed
For the split tailgate 92 on (?) models the specs are as follows:-
Dx - 1.3L 16 valve single cam, non Vtec (70 bhp)
Lsi - 1.5L, 16 valve single cam non vtec (89bhp)
Vei - 1.5L 16 valve single cam Vtec - thats the economy tuned one
Esi - 1.6L, single cam vtec (123bhp)
Vti - 1.6L twin cam Vtec (158bhp)
CRX ESi - 1.6L, single cam vtec (123bhp)
CRX Vti - 1.6L twin cam Vtec (158bhp
Current generation details on honda website. Not sure about previous gen cars, but the Vti and Civic Jordan were as per VTI above.

also there was the swindon built civic's with the rover 200 5dr shell, the vti used the 1.8cc twin cam vtec with (167)bhp, i think came out on "N" reg still during the split tailgate(EG's) civics.
My friend recentley brought an R reg 1.8 vti(swindon version) although slightly torquier than the (b16a) 1.6 twin cam vtec before 5500krpm....i feel the 1.6 revs better and faster after 5500rpm .......still nice all the same..........although the cabin feels rover.

I'd agree with Kenny - the 1.8 twin cam vtec's are a little more torquey, but 1.6 twin cams rev much sweeter. I'm sure the 1.8s have crap gear ratios on purpose, too - neither as short or as close as other hondas, meaning that you can do nearly 70 in 2nd - no need at all.
1.6 twin cam (VTi) engines are great - mine had done 98,000 miles when I had it dyno'd - it gave 167bhp without any mods (158 is book figure, but losening with mileage helps).
Single cam 1.6 is OK - but the head gasket went on my ESi twice at only medium miles (60 & 80k). Nothing like as frantic as VTi either, but didn't feel at all slouchy after the 1.6 205 gti I'd had previously.

The jordan civic was just a normal 1.6vti in a tarty outfit, so above comments re 1.6vti versus 1.8vti stand. 1.6 is a sportier drive, quicker and revvier than 1.8.
You'll pay over the odds for a jordan one, but then again it does look ace (except for the wheels which are pants).

The 1.8VTI is not as 'revvy' but does have a fair bit of torque which he 1.6 does not have much of and the 1.8 has LSD so better at getting the power down.
I prefer the 1.8 having had both. easier to live with day to day
When i had the 1.6VTI i had it off the clock showing 8300rpm in 5th gear 'playing' with an Intergrale. i worked out the speed based on 18mph per 1000 rpm to 148MPH so not bad for a 1.6 4dr car in std trim, shocked the geezer in the intergrale as well
