I couldn`t get a test drive, so my decision to buy my STi 8 was easier.
Different cars really, main like of the R32 is the leather interior, impressive and a great car for the price, but if you want **** hot quick mad car for reasonable money STi 8 PPP, every time.

You shouldn't have too much trouble finding a garage with a spare slot because VW recently increased each dealerships allocation for the year. Try posting on one of these for more info........

Not a chance. I'm quite happy to sacrifce that shove in the back you get from a P1/STI/etc... for the build quality and general comfort the R32 offers.
It's a case of been there, done that bought the t-shirt. No doubt I'll be wittering on about the virtues of car X in 18 months time.

Thanks paulmon
Being a lifelong VW fan and like you an ex. P1 owner that`s useful info. My problem with all the Golf`s since the Mk2 is that they are just plain boring to the eye - not sharp enough in the styling dept.
However, that engine may well tip the balance in future. My local VW technician reports that it certainly is `special` under the skin - suspension / steering etc...nothing he`s ever seen on another Golf before.
How do find the HALDEX 4WD system compared to that of the Subaru ?
Cheers

Jamesa,
The haldex systems works differently to 4WD system in subaru's so it's a difficult comparison to make. At first I was a bit dubious about it, but it works really well when it needs to. You dont get the immediate sense that all four wheels are working for you like you do in the Subaru but deep down you know it must be because if it was'nt then the front wheels would be spinning like mad with 240BHP going through them.
If you put the power down when pulling away in first you feel the rear tyres bite and thrust you forward. I'm stil pondering about having the AMD upgrade which takes power to over 270BHP
