New M3 and 911 turbo on M40
#1
I saw these two (on 2 separate occassions) yesterday. I'd just like to say that they vanished into the horizon after drawing parallel to me at around 80mph and then flying off. I can only dream of that sort of acceleration...
Edited to add I also came across a mondeo ST220 - brand new black one and that appeared to shoot off pretty quick too - quicker than I would have (I didn't bother racing)

turboman, i have got a scooby running maybe 250bhp with say 80bhp transmission losses (in 4th/5th at 80) which means i'll have 170bhp on tap (on a good day) and bear in mind it was really hot therefore prob much lower. Now the mondy sends 220 bhp to the wheels with no transmission losses, so I didn't fancy my chances. I was three up as well...
Anyone got 80-100-120mph times??

Nope but I know the ST220 will do 155mph now its got the new 6spd box in it, and IIRC the previous Top Speed is 152mph??
Pretty fast cars that handle well, cheap to buy as well!!

Don't forget that a classic Impreza (if that's what you have) is significantly lighter than an ST220 (200-250Kg), can I interest you in 6 airbags anyone? Although at higher speeds aerodynamics becomes a significant factor.
I have no idea whether the ST220's aerodynamics are any better than the Impreza's although I wouldn't imagine they'd be any worse!
I do like the ST220 in 4 door form, just wish it wasn't so bloody lardy compared to its ST200 predecessor.

Just had a quick look, they have 217BHP, quoted 0-100 is around 20 secs and the weight is a fraction under 1500Kg heavier than I thought. 1/4 mile test was done in 15.2 at 92MPH (dry track).
Those figures will be for the 5-speed model, if it was a very new one it's prolly a bit quicker with the 6-speed (maybe not quicker on the 1/4 mile though depending where shift points are).
