Need a car that carry 4 adults and 2 children comfortabley. Do not like People Carriers. Budget up to £25k does not have to be new. Have been looking at Merc E and M Class with Family Pack.
Any suggestion?

Sounds like you need a people carrier, to be honest 7 seater cars are ok if you only occasionally transport additional kids, we had a Volvo 850 with the extra seats but we didnt like using them where possible as we didnt think they were that safe and only any good for kids, the discovery has some dodgy ones in the boot and is horrid to drive (the old ones were, the later one was much improved but is still pretty wobbly)
Either a Galaxy/Sharan/Alhambra or Espace or if you need luggage space as well as seats go for a Grand Espace, not the Voyager cos its pretty ropey, though the smaller ones like our Sharan our pretty versatille with the seat combos.

I take your point about the comfort long term thus People Carrier, however it will not be long journeys.
Situation is that there is mrself, wife and 2 boys. When we see my outlaws in Germany or they come over which is every 8/10 weeks one way or the other it would be very useful if we could all pile into the one car.
There would be enough room for the 4 of us and luggage to travel to Germany, so its occasional use.
I personally do not like People Carriers, been in a few feel like a van, would prefer to stick with cars or 4x4s. At the moment we have a Cherokee 18mths old, great car but not for 6 bodies.
Would also be looking for Auto and still something fun/sporty having owned a Scooby for 4 years and then Skyline R34 for a year(which went due to dislocated collarbone)
Having reread this, looks like I've set an impossible task

the best family estate ever was the peugeot 505 seats for 8 all forward facing drove like a real car they are sadly missed by many.
I have the same problem i dont want a people carrier that is just a converted van so my choice would be the espace but not the new model it is ugly the v6 is quick and quiet but drinks nearly as much as a scoob!
until my 505 dies i will just keep driving it 560 000 and climbing!

Agree with the Peugeot as I came from a large family where we had both the 505 and 504.
GTI, thanks for the info on the A6, never knew about the extra seats, only problem now is trying to find a s/h one already fitted as it's factory fit only and we do not want to splash out on new anymore.

What are your top three priorities? Performance? Economy? Comfort? Size? Image? Type of Driving?
You can get a 3 or 4 year old A6 or S6 Avant for about that price, and I believe they can be fitted with seats for the kids in the boot area.

Looks like we've narrowed it down to either the E Class or A6/S6, the later is difficult as the seat bench is a factory fit only option(according to dealer) and they are like Rocking Horse ****.
We still prefer the Audi so will persevere, if anyone knows of one please let me know.
Cheers

What about a Vauxhall Zafira GSi?? Very flexible seating, powerful engine, and cheap to buy and run...
Oh God, I just recommended a Vauxhall, errr..... I'll get my coat.....
Cheers,
Grant

Guys
Thanks for your help, looks like we're sold on the A6.
Now have to track one down with seat or look for retrofit, which I'm now told by a different dealer that it can be done.
Cheers
