erm.....sorry but I have a tiny confession to make.....

Erm...firstly, I don't actually own or drive a Subaru....in fact I am not altogether that keen on them, however I do enjoy reading other peoples opinions of cars, Subaru or not, as it can be quite enlightening when it comes to buying a car that you have little or no experience of.
I drive a not quite standard Japanese car myself, have had more Nova/Saxo aimers than my fair share try and take me on at traffic lights etc....all of whom fail abysmally and who look at me slightly miffed that a woman driver actually owns/drives something bigger than a Metro.
I admit that I am very biased towards the car I own because I happen to like them, having owned 2 of them, I find them to be extremely easy to handle, cheap to run if driven properly etc
There are those who slag my car off, calling it names etc but it serves my purposes well and I am happy with it.
A Fiesta driver found out the hard way about taking on my car a couple of months ago, she ran her car down the offside of mine at 50mph terminal speed...she lost her engine, my car needed a wing and a door...all is fair in love and war lol
And my car...well its a very humble Toyota 7M-GTE

It may be a humble Supra, but at least it survived a smack from a Festering Fiesta
The driver of said festering wreck was done for:
no licence (driving while banned)
no tax
no MOT
no insurance
driving without due care
speeding (doing 50 in a 30)

Those Supras were surprisingly good, even inacceptable good at their time. Japanese cars had to prove themselves still. Fast and solid but rather low MPG I remember. 0-60 around 6,5 sec and 1,6 t IIRC? A bit of a medallion man image too.

Neglect after raising it a few Psi? It's probably the infamous stock head gasket failure, and yes, raising the boost will make a full blown head gasket happen sooner or later.
Other than that 7M-GTE's were developed for high performance and if I were you, spend a few hundred on exhaust, down pipe and boost controller. (If you had your head gasket (Toyota standard or HKS/Greddy) changed and torqued down properly of course).

I had one of these, a good few years ago - though I sold it shortly after the head gasket went for the second time.
Great fun cars - in their day - but the head gasket let it down...
The climate control had one feature that the Scoob could do with - an air vent directly beneath the steering column. Ideal

Toyota made a huge **** up at the factory back in the 80's and were slow to do anything about it. Head bolts were not torqued to the required 72 ft/lbs, factory bolts were torqued to a mere 58 lbs.
The Totoya head gasket itself holds well with 14-15 PSI, "if bolted on tight".
